Run
Comments: Lost my pace group at the beginning and took out too fast too early. Knew I couldn't maintain through the whole course. Started trying to slow back to find som others from the Team Danny group to help reset my pace and started settling into a groove. Started feeling a bit warm around mile 5. Headband/gloves were shed at mile 2. Probably could've completed the course without tights. Felt absolutely great for the first 7-8mi holding the pace. Took a gu (lemon sublime) at mile 9. Started feeling the creeping in of the "turf toe" and the punishment for my dumb start at mile 11.5. At that point, really just ready to be finished. Finally caught enough of a second wind when turning up the final straight away to maintain a better finishing pace. However, despite the bad, I set a goal of maintaining a 10min/mi and finishing sub 2:10, which I did. Hit my goal and couldn't be happier; especially for my first half-marathon. What would you do differently?: Follow the golden rule of not starting too fast. I got into a comfortable groove, but it was still too quick to maintain. Post race
Warm down: Walked through the chute to get the finishers shirt which was poorly designed by the way. Grabbed a gatorade and water. After the first swig of the gatorade, I had to fight my stomach. For whatever reason, my stomach wasn't having any of it. Started walking around more to keep from cramping, and trying to get my stomach to cooperate. Finally managed some food at the post race party. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. First ever half marathon, so nothing really. Event comments: Instead of getting shirts and medals at the finish line, we only got medals. To get shirts, we had to fight through a very unorganized crowd then fight the same crowd to get out of the fenced area. Seemed this could have really been better planned. Plenty of waterstops and spectators along the course pumping the runners. Great atmosphere. Last updated: 2009-11-16 12:00 AM
