Swim
Comments: 3/11 age group 52/112 overall I liked the swim a lot. Nice place to swim. Very pretty. Good time of day to start. Reasonably organized. This was my first triathlon and first time doing any sort of competitive swimming so I was pleased to rank well. All in all there were 112 swimmers. What would you do differently?: I would try to get my form better for next race. Transition 1
Comments: This was meshed in with the swim time... There was a run on sand that was a bit hard. The transition went well. I practiced this as part of training which helped a lot. Sun glasses fell of bike when walking it out. I had intended to throw them on while riding. Bike
Comments: 86/113 over all on the bike 6/11 age group. I am not a good biker and did not expect to perform well. (had never biked more than 6 miles until a few weeks before the race). So I did not set a very fast goal time. (1 hour). I did not make that goal. Not too bummed. I still had fun! What would you do differently?: This time... Nothing... By next time I will have trained a lot more and (maybe next year) buy a better bike. Transition 2
Comments: this was lumped into the bike time... Had to walk bike a small distance in the grass with bike. Not to bad. Run
Comments: 45/112 2nd/11 age group... This was fun! I love running. Quads felt OK after my bike. I had practiced this during training a good bit. First time practicing it was really hard... I got better and better at it but I think I still have a good bit of room for improvement. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Ate lots of oranges and drank lots of water. Ate bananas. Stretched Ate more oranges Ate some star fruit and papaya Ate lots of cookies Ate lots and lots of brownies. Drank a smoothie with lots of fruit and some protein powder. hit the beach What limited your ability to perform faster: I should train more. I had never done one of these and only had done running races in the past. I just bought the sudo-ok bike did a 4 week training schedule that I found online. This was enough to get be through the triathlon and have fun but if I want to do better I think I should train more, do some reading on triathlons and just keep signing up for more triathlons. The more I do the more I'll learn! :-) Event comments: This race is great. It is nice to have such a cool race on Kauai. The T-shirt was really cool! People cheered us one. Race organizers very friendly. Beautiful course. Traffic was not closed but each intersection we had to cross had volunteers directing traffic so we did not have to stop. Great fruit and snacks for after the race! Pro Triathlete there to give us tips at the end. There were a couple little nit picks I could make but they are very minor (the wave start was set up differently then they claimed it would be in the packet). Last updated: 2009-11-22 12:00 AM
