  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Garmin had course at 2295 based on Garmin I had 1:46 / 100 yds average.

I am satisfied with my swim. Was hoping for less than 40 minutes and I came pretty close with 40:20. I could feel the strap for my timing chip brushing against my ankle and was a little worried I would loose my chip so that distracted me a bit, otherwise everything went pretty well on the swim. I really need to do more open water swims, I am to conservative on these long open water swims, worried I will tire out, and then suffer the back half or so of the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure timing chip strap is secure.
Transition 1
  • 04m 10s
Comments:

Nothing special here, used the wetsuit strippers, suit came off pretty quick, transition was a decent distance from the water so T1 was kind of long.
Bike
  • 3h 03m 39s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.30 mile/hr
Comments:

Garmin had bike course at 56.91 with average of 18.64 mph

Basically went out to hard, after the first loop I had average of 19mph, and my heart rate was to high, my desire to go sub 6 took over and I should have known better. The rollers really took a toll on my legs as I tried to maintain my 19ish average on the second loop.

Also, probably not a good idea to put the Oly u-turn right in the middle of the Oly / Half out and back. I am sure there had to be many near accidents at the Oly u-turn.
What would you do differently?:

Go easier on the bike with hopes that it will allow me to make up that time on the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

Nothing to report here, putting on socks always takes some time here, but rather spend a few seconds putting on socks rather than end up with blisters.
Run
  • 2h 17m 11s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Run started out pretty decent, was doing the 4 min run 30 second walk thing, and was averaging in the high 8s for the first few miles then, the legs just gave out, and ended up walking more often. It was a little warm, but I think the main issue was my legs just being tired from the bike, and not enough run training. Really need to get my run under 2 hours.
What would you do differently?:

easier on the bike, and more longer training runs.

Event comments:

I really like the venue for this race, I like the beach start for the swim, and the bike course was decent, although the roads kind of sucked in sections, and the run course has some shaded sections.

Was a little disappointed that even with a $169 entry fee, they only had 1 aid station on the bike and all it had was water.
