Pre-race routine:

Woke up at five and had a powerbar and gatorade.Packed up the family and left. I was not really planning on running, but last week a friend from NJ called and said he could not make it and gave me his registration (the organization was kind enough to switch it). I did not train for a 1/2 and this was my first, so I did not really know what to expect. I was pretty nervous before the race.
I had picked up my race packet on friday, so we parked next to the start. Saw a friend of mine from work (she ended up finishing 1st in her AG) and her husband (who finished 3rd overall!).
Event warmup:

Jogged around the parking lot a few times. It was really chilly. Went to the bathroom a couple of times ( I was definately both well hydrated and nervous).

Comments:

This race went really well. I did not have any hard and fast goals, but I thought that I would average around 7:30 miles.
I really surprised myself.
I felt pretty good the entire time. There were a few miles in the middle where I let myself be paced by 2 guys going about 7 min/mile. This was probably a mistake, but I had no idea I would be able to keep up a sub 7 min pace. Now seeing that I ran multiple miles at 6:30, I could have run the middle of the race faster.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know, try to run faster...
Post race
Warm down:

None, really (and boy am I paying for it today). Went with my wife and kids to the awards area and had some bagels and gatorade. Got a massage while bobbi went in and drooled over all of the beautiful bikes at Inside Out Sports. What a nice Tri shop...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Did not train specifically for this event (probably would have helped).

Event comments:

The post race feed was a little disappointing. They ran out of bagels pretty quickly. Not enough volunteers at some of the water stations. At one station, a guy had come out of his house and began passing out water because there were not any volunteers there. On the bright side they did a great job with closing streets and keeping traffic out of the way. Otherwise it was a good race. Beautiful course and great weather.

Performance: Good
I wore my wife's HRM as a lap timer, so I actually followed my HR. Unfortunatley, at the end when I was trying to get my final time I messed it up so all of these numbers are approximate. i know mile 1 and 2 were about 6:30, as were 9 and 10. Unfortunatley, I lost a little time onthe hills at the end... Max HR (201- that does not seem possible, maybe had some interference, if that was the case, then it was 196) Average HR range:180-190.
Course: Beautiful course through streets, woods and by a lake. Pretty hilly. I was not really expecting all of the hills, but I just shortened my stride and concentrated on my breathing and they went well. it was a beautiful route.
