Swim
Comments: After my "warm up swim" I didn't find entering the water bad at all. Anyone wanting to do this race shoulddefinatly get into the water before their start or their breath will literaly be taken away. Start was very crowded as my wave had to move over for the Pros that were finishing their swim. Crowsed at the beginning but then great. Water was clear and calm for the most part. Hapy with my swim. Took a minute off my Oliver time. What would you do differently?: Train harder so I swim faster Transition 1
Comments: Transition was OK. Gear bag easy to find but due to rain the previous evening and race morning it was pretty muddy. Could I have gone faster...probably....not too worried about it though. Gave me time to lower the heart rate. Bike
Comments: Happy with my bike. Little stressed out before the race because of the hills, but it wasn't too bad. Lots of downhill to make up for those hills. Roads were wet and it started to rain. Was very cold on the ride as I didn't come prepared for that weather (they issued a tornado warning the night before the race). Anyway, happy with my performance on the hills as I tend to shut down when facing them. Calves felt the hills and my knee which I usually only have problems with on the run started to act up...didn't look promising for the run. What would you do differently?: Continue to do more hill training...any bring some more clothes Transition 2
Comments: Transition was OK. Volunteer wanted to help me with my stuff....I just wanted a break...Oh well, I let him help me and walked out of transition What would you do differently?: RUN Run
Comments: Once again I need to run but mentally can't bring myself to do it. Started with 5 and 2s for the first twenty mintues and then dropped to 3 and 1s and then 1 and 1s with the odd "you're going to finish just walk moment". When ding one and one's I found that I could keep up with the people running in front of me. Saw a baby deer on the run. Grew up in the area so it brought back some good memories....maybe that's why I walked??? BTW my knee felt fine on the run so I can't use that as an excuse What would you do differently?: Build more time running into my training. Post race
Warm down: Sugar and a shuttle bak to the hotel for a hot shower to get all the mud off from the rainy bike ride What limited your ability to perform faster: My lack of will to run Event comments: This race was very well organized and the volunteer and spectators were amazing. If you are into the expo this one is OK..Ironman 70.3 merchandise for sale. Finishers medal was not a medal but a belt buckle. Cool 'cause it's Calgary and it just fits. My only issue was I like Coke at the aid stations on the run and it was only offered to me twice. I am not sure if I took so long they ran out or what. I would like more aid stations on the run and Coke......sugar please ;) Last updated: 2009-11-25 12:00 AM
