Pre-race routine:

set up transition area
Event warmup:

stretched some, light jog in transition area.
Swim
  • 09m 49s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 27s / 100 yards
Comments:

reverse tri, so swim being last I was a little tired. never really focused on swimming during training, and had to back stroke a few times. but got through it and enjoyed it!
What would you do differently?:

swim longer distances in training to so I can hammer through the swim without having to back stroke.
Transition 1
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

bike to swim - calves cramped big time, so took me a little longer than I would have liked.
Bike
  • 54m 22s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 20.57 mile/hr
Comments:

pretty good bike - although it drizzled the entire time I was on the bike. Pretty brutal! Had a good pace up to the two hills and got through them, then just hammered the easier part of the course. I could feel my calves starting to cramp up though, so kept trying to stretch out while on the bike on the downhills.
What would you do differently?:

continue to ride - I cut a decent amount of time off from the previous tri on the same route.
Transition 2
  • 02m 42s
Comments:

run to bike transition - last time I'll ever use laced mtb shoes for my tri! this took way too long. gave up some time getting all my stuff on.
What would you do differently?:

velcro road shoes are a must. also, getting dressed took to much time. going to get tri shorts for the next one so there's less to put on in transition. and PRACTICE!
Run
  • 26m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

running is not something I like - but, I got through it pretty well. still had to walk towards end, but given that, I finished with a good time. course is hilly, so I try to pace myself so I don't blow up in the first half. did ok, and used the downhill to push a bit.
What would you do differently?:

continue running and get some longer distances under my belt so I can finish without walking.
Post race
Warm down:

ate some of the food they had, and watched my daughter compete in her first tri! what a blast. after that, off to my buddy's house to sit in the hot tub and eat some pizza.

Event comments:

a reverse tri. weather was brutal! it rained the entire time I was on the bike, but not so bad to where I couldn't push it. My second tri, and missed my goal of sub 1:30, but still happy with how I performed. Cutting 8 minutes off of my first tri made me happy.
