Run
Comments: Started the race off at a comfortable pace at the front of the pack. The speedsters quickly put a gap between them and everyone else which allowed me to settle into my ideal pace. I ran the first mile in 6:40. I tired just a bit during the second but held strong passing 2 miles in 13:50. The last mile and change was solid right under 7 minutes/mile average. I felt strong enough for a good kick and passed 3 or 4 people in the finished chute What would you do differently?: Train more Post race
Warm down: None What limited your ability to perform faster: I fractured my elbow about 5 weeks before the race so I had done very little cardio work. I ran 2 or 3 times in the 2 weeks before the race. Looking back I think I could have run in the low 20 min range had I been able to train properly in the month before the race. Event comments: This is the 2nd year in a row I have done the race with my family. It will continue to be a family tradition going forward. I would recomment it to anyone and everyone in the area. Woke up at 6:30am after getting to bed around 3am the night before. Thanksgiving Eve is a big bar night and being in the industry, I closed that night. I have no one to blame but myself as I make my own schedule. I drank 2 cups of coffee and ate an egg sandwich.
I jogged a quarter of a mile or so at a very slow pace. Nothing major, just something to get the blood flowing and warm up a bit since it was 35 degrees.
