Pre-race routine:

Woke up, showered, drove down to DC in the rain.
Event warmup:

Run around trying to stay warm in the rain before the swim.
Swim
  • 27m 1s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

My swim time wasnt my best ever, but I managed to run into people from the previous 6 waves. Definitely wouldve PR'ed had I not had to swim through an obstacle course. As I was nearing the end of the swim I had a guy swim directly over me from the following wave. He was absolutely flying!
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to avoid people from the waves in front of me?
Transition 1
  • 06m 40s
Comments:

Slow. The transition area was a muddy mess and I saw several people wipe out in the mud only to come up with mud clogged derailer and the like. Just took my time and managed to go around the outside of transition and avoid the mud pits.
What would you do differently?:

Run all the way from the swim out to bike out. It leaves me a goal for next year.
Bike
  • 1h 16m 39s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.45 mile/hr
Comments:

My best bike of the year. Never thought I would get close to 20mph avg in a tri my first year so I am super stoked about this result. To do it in the rain makes it even better.
What would you do differently?:

Stay aero more, but with the wet roads and 180 turns, I didnt want to risk a crash. Aside from the turns I dont think hit my brakes at all, which is definitely a good thing.
Transition 2
  • 04m 2s
Comments:

Faster. I managed to pick up the pace from T1 but still didnt want to bite it in the mud.
Run
  • 1h 08m 2s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Great run for me. Only 15 seconds off from my stand alone 10k PR. Only walked around the water/aid stations. Super happy about this result as well.
What would you do differently?:

Run the whole way!
Post race
Warm down:

Crossed the finish line and both hamstrings decided they had enough and almost went into full spasms, so I sat there and stretched for a bit. Got my medal, JetBlue time receipt (which is an awesome feature), grabbed a muscle milk, blanket, chips and a banana. Post race food was non-existant and I was only in the 9th of 30+ waves.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training.

Event comments:

Aside from the post-race food let down, I would definitely recommend this race to anyone.
