Run
Comments: It was a little crowded at the start, but it cleared up by the first turn. I went out at a good pace, but I didn't want to go out too hard like I did in the last 5K I did. I just concentrated on long strides and not trying to keep up with people that would make me run differently than I wanted to. I got to the first mile marker and it said I ran in 6:30. Not bad. Leading up to this race, I was not feeling that great in my legs and after the first mile I was feeling that again. I just tried keeping a pace and keeping my srtides long and strong. However starting on the back side of the race track, I started feeling real lethargic agian and started thinking a PR was out of the question so i would just try to make it respectable. Rounding the Expo center and passing the parking lot, there was djdavey cheering me on. I really need that at that point. It pushed me to give a little more. Just then, what looked like a little 10 year old girl gets by me and starts pulling away. Now that was dishartening, but I pushed a little more. I was getting in a groove and feeling good (even though at this point I still think I am on cruise controll). Right where the course split to go around the track or to go right for the second loop, I turned right and my shoe came untied! I really had to concentrate to not trip, but I was not going to stop to tie it. I passed the doors of the expo and glanced at my watch. When I saw it was at 19 minutes and some seconds and I had the finish line in sight, I knew I would get a PR. Two guys passed me right in front of the expo center. We turned the corner to the last long straightaway and I thought "I can't let those two stay in front of me" so I stepped on the gas, passed them, and finished strong. I finished in 20:33 which meant I dropped 40 seconds from my PR run that I did just last month! What would you do differently?: Seeing that I didn't think I was going all that fast and I dropped 40 seconds from my PR anyway, I probably could have pushed a little harder. However, if I pushed harder at the start, I might not have been able to push it through the whole race. Maybe a little harder in the middle and the last mile would be do-able. Post race
Warm down: Walked a little. Stood with other donkeys cheering in others. Watched for my wife, but missed her finishing. What limited your ability to perform faster: I had multiple layers on so maybe warm weather so I would not have to bundle up? Event comments: Good race. I ran a PR but felt I could have gone faster. This is a good sign for the season! Last updated: 2009-12-01 12:00 AM

Woke up, got dressed, ate some Cherios and headed off to the race. Once there, talked to some of the other Donkeys. Headed outside to warm up. That was hard being ony about 14 degrees, but I ran about 3/4 mile anyway. Headed back inside until the start. With about 3 minutes before the start, we headed ou the door and lined up for the start.
Warmup? It was 14 degrees! Can you really warm up with those temps?
