Comments: Started out ok but could not stay with my three stroke breathing. Kept breathing every stroke to my right. So easy in the pool but tough for me in the lake. Got my goggles knocked off between bouys, sucked, had to get those back on costing me a few seconds. Results show me longer than last year but with the timing error from T1 last year I estimate I beat last year's time by a minute and a half or so. Want to see more improvement next year. What would you do differently?: Stay with three stroke breathing, get in more OWS. Avoid getting kicked in the goggles. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty good transition. Family was yelling for me, that is always fun. Got the wetsuit off really well. What would you do differently?: Nada, good one. Bike
Comments: A dude almost crashed into me right out of transition, scared me a bit, but he was able to right himself. There was a headwind the whole way, I don't know how but there was. Seemed like it anyway. Good ride, passed mostly by folks on TT bikes. Had a guy that I was back and forth with, LA Tri guy. He dropped me eventually. What would you do differently?: Nada, just go faster. Transition 2
Comments: Didn't get my bike on the rack the first stab, wasn't bad though. Got my shoes on and took off. What would you do differently?: Nada, just get the bike on the first go. Run
Comments: I felt way better than last year. Feet were a little numb but not as bad as last time. Caught the LA Tri guy and stayed behind him a bit, he slowed and I decided to put some time into him. Paced with a couple of guys for awhile which seemed to help. Passed by a bunch of older dudes, 47, 55, etc. Those guys are fast. Got to the beach and LA Tri guy passed me, decided to stay with him and try to out-sprint him in the finishing chute. Was able to hang onto him and made the mad sprint at the end. I got him by a second. I was pumped, but I am sure I looked like a fool. He gave me a handshake after the finish line, I could not breathe so I wasn't able to chat, felt kind of bad about that. What would you do differently?: Run is still the weak link. Just keep working on it. Post race
Warm down: Got to the finish and had some oranges, bananas and water. The kids tested out the podium. No stretching, bad! Started raining so got the family into the van and the bike racked. Went back for the results and was pleasantly surprised. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of running fitness, inability to stay with my three stroke breathing. Event comments: Love the finisher's medal. Can't wait to do this one again next year, may have to lie about my age though, 35-39 AGers are fast. Last updated: 2009-12-01 12:00 AM

Went to bed really early and got up about a half hour before my alarm, up at 3:00 am. Double checked all my gear and had a waffle with PB. Got the kids up and into the van with my mom and aunt and we were off. A got sick when we arrived, G ate too many Pringles and got to see some of them again.
Some stretching and anti-rain dances.
