Pre-race routine:

Got up, showered just to warm myself up. Fixed a PB w/ honey on wheat sandwich and hit the road about 5:05 am. Drank about 1/2 bottle of Coke, 1/2 bottle of water. Arrived about 5:50 am and wasn't parked until 6:10 am. Note: Might be better to go down, make a u-turn and come back around.
Event warmup:

Called Patti to let her know I was there. Picked up timing chip and headed to the portapot. Standing in line when I heard Coach Liz's voice just two people behind me. Planned to meet the Woodlands Fit group at the start line. Did some short sprints to warm up and some stretches.

Comments:

Dressed appropriately in gloves, long sleeve drifit, short sleeve drifit, jacket, fleece jacket (which I ditched at the start), tights, Nike Motos, usual socks, and scarve (ditched about mile 4). Needed to slow down through the water station and at mile 7 for icey conditions - LOL. About mile 3, began to feel like my sock was bunched up under the ball of my foot, which bothered me throughout ... feeling bruised the next day.

Ran w/ Patti who had just finished her first HM on New Years with a time of 2:58 (she was able to knock off 17+ minutes in this race!).
Was not going in expecting to get a PR, so was pleasantly surprised to knock another 1:04 off my own HM time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really ... except maybe figure out better nutrition than my fruit chews which were too hard to eat in the cold weather. I was actually feeling really hungry towards the end of the race. HR below 166 until I realized I could beat my PR and sprinted at the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Met Liz and Woodlands Fit group. Got my finisher's medal/t-shirt; ate a grilled chicken sandwich from Outback, two chicken strips from Raising Cane; and a great fruit bowl from My Fit Foods. Walked to car to finish up my coke which was still nice and cold!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Maybe the icey conditions!? My training runs have been a little slower which I was attributing to the holiday hours/food but wonder if some of it was still the legs recovering from my HM on 12/5.

Event comments:

I don't know if I'd actually do this race again as the course was a little boring, especially after the St. Jude HM in Memphis. I think I enjoy a bigger race event. The run through the neighborhood was coned off right along the curb with room for two runners. Since we were slower, we were staying to the right which meant we were running on a slant for several miles which took a toll on my right hip and Patti's right ankle. The after race food was very good, especially the fruit bowl (w/ no melons, yea!).
