Swim
Comments: unknown ranks because the swim was shortened to 860m a few waves after mine. I did about as well as I expected, especially since it was rather choppy going in. Had more trouble navigating when I was drafting (following someone else's bubbles) than when I was not drafting and kind of swimming on my own. It was great having the volunteers help us up the stairs! What would you do differently?: Nothing other than do more OWS. I felt pretty good with this. Transition 1
Comments: One of the reasons I bought that particular wetsuit was that it was supposed to be easy to take off, even if it is a pain to get on (with the two pieces). Well, the top came off great - I had everything pretty much stripped down by the time I got to my bike, but then the wetsuit got stuck on my heels and would not come off. I started looking for the medical tent for scissors to cut the @#$% thing off, but eventually worked my way out of it. Otherwise transition was fine. What would you do differently?: Get a new wetsuit. Bike
Comments: I am usually very slow on the bike but I've been pedaling at a lower cadence which seems to have made me faster than in the past. I left my Cateye at the hotel, though, so I didn't know my exact cadence but I could tell when I was spinning too fast so I slowed it down. Wind was tough but I kind of expected it so I just dealt with it. I enjoyed the course and did better than I expected on the turns. What would you do differently?: Practice more turns and keep focusing on the bike training. Transition 2
Comments: would have been faster had someone not been sitting right in front of where I needed to rack my bike! What would you do differently?: Run her over! j/k. I couldn't control it and she was apologetic, so I just dealt with it. Run
Comments: I love this run - it's a beautiful neighborhood and the residents were very supportive and cheerful! Felt good throughout except on the last mile when the wind really kicked in. I had wanted to do 10-minute miles so I was right on target. Saw a guy in a BT shirt when I was heading back in and yelled out something like "go BT!" but I think he was too focused to hear me. What would you do differently?: Train on hills to help with wind resistance. Post race
Warm down: Love those icy blue rags at the end! Stretched, then waited in line to get back into transition. Ate at one of our old St. Pete hangouts (from when we lived there 15 years ago) and then headed home. Many thanks to my wonderful husband for driving back - and for getting up early to drive me to the race from the hotel! What limited your ability to perform faster: Wetsuit and general bike limiters. Bike is slowly improving and I am motivated to work on it after Sunday's race. Event comments: Fantastic race! I haven't raced in over a year so I was glad to get back into it with such an amazing event. I am so impressed with how organized everything was and I'm looking forward to doing it again next year. woke up, my wonderful husband drove me to the race site. Laid out transition area before getting body-marked since the lines were so long. Ate yogurt with espresso hammergel mixed in while waiting for my wave to start at 8:01.
None other than trying to get wetsuit on (more on that in T1)
