Swim
Comments: Hopped off the bike, grabbed my cap and googles and off to the pool. Left my knee high socks on. Even with that I managed to have the fastest swim time in my AG. The water was warm and felt great. What would you do differently?: If this race had been my A race for the year I would have ditched the costume but it was too much fun to pass up. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Mounting the bike was an issue. I've had some balance issues since IM and this was interesting. I had some issues with riders not staying right but the course wasn't as crowded as last year. There was a bit of a headwind on the course and being that this is a draft legal race I looked for opportunities but none presented so I fought the wind alone. Got several compliments on my costume. What would you do differently?: Learn how to mount a bike ... Transition 2
Run
Comments: Run went fine. My run speed leaves much to be desired post IM and I took whatever I could muster on this run. Stopped to tie my shoes twice and the bell on my hat rang the whole way. I'm sooo glad it was only a 5K, that bell drove me nuts. What would you do differently?: Double knot my shoe laces on my neon green trail shoes. Post race
Warm down: Went back to transition to get my towel and warm clothes then back to the pool to cheer on friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: Ironman ... but it doesn't matter. I had fun. Every race this year has been in preparation for something and this was just plain for fun. No pressure just bright green knee sock and neon shoe fun. I get the rest of the month off to do easy training and enjoy the remainder of 2009 then it's time to work on speed. Event comments: This race is a good community event. There are logistical issues that haven't been worked out and there appeared to be far fewer volunteers this year compared to last year. I love this race because it's fun and relaxed. Once you finish your swim you are allowed back into transition causing a log jam of people coming in off the bike to head to the pool. All finishers should be given the same opportunity to get to the pool to swim and not get blocked in. If you're looking for a lower key first tri or know someone who is this is a great race. The fees are fairly reasonable and there are tons of first timers with hybrids, mountain bikes and beach cruisers and no need to buy or rent a wetsuit. Last updated: 2009-12-03 12:00 AM

Toast and PB, loaded up the truck and drove to Hemet with Charlie and my friend Jeni who was also racing.
Set up transition, put on green knee socks, green striped arm warmers, Christmas tree boxers and my hat then jumped around trying to stay warm before the run started.
