Swim
Comments: The time is misleading. This includes the approx 500m!! run from the swim exit to T1, In reality the time was 10:24. The improvement was good, yet I was dissapointed that some bad navigation cost me about 20 seconds and I am still not very comfortable in the water. I said in my last report that this should be my strongest leg. Well time to put in more work and make sure I nail the swim. What would you do differently?: Sighting Sighting. Transition 1
Comments: Thank god for the long run, otherwise I would be F--cked. Both hands got caught in the wetsuit AT THE SAME TIME. I had to jettison the goggles and the swim cap by the wayside. The problem was that my shiny new 310xt meant it was impossible to get the wetsuit off. Fortuantly with about 100m left I managed to eradicate my hands. My running speed after that was good, that is a strength of mine (running into and out of transtions). I will practice wetsuit removal during the week. Getting the wetsuit off was a slight poblem again, MORE PRACTICE What would you do differently?: Need more practice Bike
Comments: There was a pack of drafters infront of me all my age group, really pissed me off they drafted the whole way, nothing was done about it!! Cycling was good otherwise, the new aerobars and a pro-fit really helped. Average speed was up 2km/h! What would you do differently?: There was one corner (last of the 4 turnarounds) where I was aggressive enough and got caught up behind some very slow woman, and probably easily cost me passing the drafters. Transition 2
Comments: I want to learn the special mount! I think I will invest in some tri cycle shoes, could save about 20seconds. What would you do differently?: That "pro" mount Run
Comments: I ran over a minute slower on a course which was 200m shorter. I was hoping to improve by about 10 seconds per Km, instead it was 25 Seconds!! Blew me away, this is very very positive!!! First km, was 4:04 then 4:15 then 4:16 then 4:23 then 4:21. I would like to keep the last few kms at a more comparable pace to the first. That is fitness. I think I need some more speed training as well. What would you do differently?: More even km splits. But splitting hairs, was amazed by performance, blew me away!! Post race
Warm down: Of course was compltely F'ed!! Some stretches, had some horrible sponsor gel and then had a wade in the sea water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hamstrings, the wetsuit removal, swimming sighting, Putting in bike shoes, bike mount and especially dismount! Event comments: Draft Catches perform you job! Last updated: 2009-12-05 12:00 AM

Unlike the previous race I took a very serious approach, as much as I could considering that I was working long hours on a political campaign that ended the night before. I bought Gatorade, No-Doz (caffenie tablets) and Guarana tablets (I have used these in some hockey matches, they make some difference).
My hamstrings were ridiculously tight leading into the race, I was struggling to bend down and no amount of stretches and compression garments would completely get rid of the tightness, although it did abate.
I arrived later than the previous race, so there was less time to organize, I probably would prefer an extra 10mins.
Had run 1km and cycled about two in the morning at home before leaving to the race, at the site I swam for about 100m. As usual my warmups are low key.
