Pre-race routine:

Same old stuff. Get up, walk the dog, eat a bagel thin with peanut butter and honey. Put the stuff in the car and go.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 06m 46s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 16s / 100 meters
Comments:

Still not fast but I paced it well. Timed my passes so that I didn't get held up. Swam relaxed and felt great coming out of the water for a change. Helped on the bike tremendously.
What would you do differently?:

Keep practicing more.
Transition 1
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

Not a whole lot to say except for that I'm going to try going sockless in sprints. The time to get the socks on costs too much time in such a short race.
What would you do differently?:

Go sockless!
Bike
  • 37m
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a really good ride for the first time. Since I managed my pace in the water I was able to go out on the bike with no limitation of my pacing. Felt slow a few times on some of the longer uphill grades. Almost lost my saddle with about 2 miles left! Scary and stupid! Overall felt really good for the relatively low mileage I've been able to get in this summer.
What would you do differently?:

Double check bolt tightness and ride more miles in training!
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Nothing to say really. I could have been faster.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster.
Run
  • 25m 19s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Couldn't quite get into a good running zone today. The heat was tough and breathing was labored. My calf had been feeling funny this week and I could tell that it wasn't happy coming off the bike. It never really loosened up during the run. I dumped water on myself at the water stops to help cool off some. I was hoping for a 23 minute 5k since I pretty confident in my ability to push that pace in a sprint but it wasn't happening today.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing much to do. Keep plugging away during the week to keep the mileage high.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, drink warm water (wish I found found the cold stuff earlier!), talk to people.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training volume. There's always more room for more training.

Event comments:

Great local race put on by the people in the triathlon scene around here. Fun early season event to knock the cobwebs loose.
