Pre-race routine:

A bit more rushed than usual- we had picked up packets on Saturday, so thought we had time on Sunday morning, but Caleb woke up and wasn't too excited to see us leaving, so that slowed us down a little. Otherwise- the usual bagel and peanut butter- no bananas this morning though! Sipped some water on the ride down, got transition set, had a mini cliff bar, got my wetsuit on and headed to the swim start
Event warmup:

None, no time. Which totally messed me up on the swim since I didn't check out the course ahead of time!
Swim
  • 28m 17s
  • 1408 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was great on the first part- sighted well, drafted a bit, found some open water pretty quickly, was right where I wanted to be when I got to the buoys. Second half was directly into the sun so sighting was tough and since I had not checked out the course ahead of time I had no idea where I was going. I didn't really swim off course, but I came to a pretty complete stop several times to figure out where the heck I was and where I had to go. Cost me a good few minutes!
What would you do differently?:

Check out the course ahead of time.
Transition 1
  • 03m 40s
Comments:

Decided to take my time on this transition, take a deep breath and not rush as much as I usually do! Got my suit off great and into my gear without a problem. Only trouble came after mounting my bike, I had a hard time clipping in my right foot.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. Even though it wasn't super fast, it was a good transition for me.
Bike
  • 1h 33m 43s
  • 26.5 miles
  • 16.97 mile/hr
Comments:

This bike started off great for me. I felt good, hit some good speed, felt really confident. About half way through, I started getting this weird pain in my butt/leg/knee- almost like a sciatic type of pain. Felt okay when I stood but really hurt when I sat- not really sure why or what it was but it definitely slowed me way down in the second half of the bike. Felt absolutely fine as soon as I got off the bike- a bit sore now, but not bad.
What would you do differently?:

Not get the weird pain? Oh, and drink more. I drank almost nothing.
Transition 2
  • 02m 54s
Comments:

Again, didn't rush too much at this transition- was worried about the pain I had on the bike so I took it slow coming off.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, really.
Run
  • 1h 00m 46s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

A good run for me! It really seemed to go by fast, which was a pleasant surprise! Stuck to my plan of walking the aid stations and taking a water and a HEED at each one. At mile four there was some ice so I put some in my sports bra and that felt great!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I was happy with this run.
Post race
Warm down:

Got my finishers bottle, cold towel and medal. Grabbed a banana and just kind of wandered around waiting for Paul to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Unfamiliarity with the confusing swim course and some pain on the bike. Otherwise, as usual, just my own slowness

Event comments:

I really enjoyed this race and was pleased with my performance!
