Swim
Comments: Good swim. However, lots and lots of seaweed on the course. Literally felt like I was pulling weeds at times. Getting the floaters off your face was interesting....Had to learn a new stroke.....Stroke, Breath, Sight, get the weeds off your face, Stroke, etc. My group caught the slow swimmers in the group before the first bouy and caught the group ahead of them by the second buoy. So it was full contact swimming the entire course. I held my own on this swim. My alergies ought to kick my a$$ later today with all that seaweed. What would you do differently?: Maybe hug the bouy line a little closer. I planned to stay to the left to stay out of the maylay...but with catching of the other groups in front of us, it was all maylay anyway all the way through. Transition 1
Comments: Fairly long run from the beach to transistion. I still don't put my shoes on the bike because I gotta wear socks. Decent transition. Didn't forget anything except to start the garmin again. I don't know why I try to race with that thing. It is really just a training tool for me. What would you do differently?: Leave the Garmin at home. Bike
Comments: Decent bike ride. Hills were tough. Rode and switched positions with #173 at least 20 times on the ride, to the point it got to funny and we were laughing at each other as we switched positions. Got my HR right in line and just put my head down and rode. Bottle of Zym, bottle of water, and one gel on the ride. I think my nutrition caused my run issues that I will describe later. What would you do differently?: Back off on the water, it wasn't that hot. Transition 2
Comments: Decent transistion. Took a while get my quick laces tight on the shoes but other than that everything went as planned. Left sunglasses, didn't need them today. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Obviously the run is my limiter. My stomach was junk for the first 2 miles and then I got it under control. Had to stop to pee in the woods around mile 2. Fell into "my" pace that I knew I could hold, and just put my head down and ran. What would you do differently?: Fix bike nutrition on bike to prevent the first 2 miles of pain. Post race
Warm down: Meet up with Shelly and the family, ate a bananna, had a beer. Visited with the donks and picked up my race results. Looked around for Minnow, but she was must have been up getting her AG medal cause I couldn't find her...but the place was packed. Packed up my gear and went to get a gyro with the family after a nice long shower, etc. Man was that good! What limited your ability to perform faster: Nutrition....soft course....the old bike technology that I ride. Oh, running. and running. and maybe running. Event comments: Great Race- Wanted to be between 2:30 and 2:45 which is right where I finished. Battled through the tough stomach issues and finished hard. Need to spend a lot more time running...obviously, that is my biggest limiter right now. Last updated: 2009-12-08 12:00 AM

Traveled to Madison and slept at the in-laws, which is right across the street from the race. Ate a good pasta diner and got some rest. Up at 5:00 without an alarm, as usual. Little choc milk, banana, and 1/2 a clif bar and off I went.
Rode my bike to the race start which was about a mile and 1/2 away. Visited with a few Donks and got all set up. Went to the water and swam a little to warm up. Back to the beach for the pre-race meeting. And then the highlight of the day....Got to meet Suzy. Only for a couple of minutes and then I had to go off to the races!
