Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:40, ate a banana and 24 Oz Accelerade. Then Doug and Harold came by, followed by Michelle and we started our walk to the race site. Andrew pulled up about 30 seconds after we left so he parked and jogged to meet us. Walk to the race site was about 1.2 miles so we got there at around 6:25 or so. Went to the port-a-potty line but it didnt move and eventually Andrew and I ducked into the woods (not together...just to be clear. He found a spot and I found a spot. Not within smelling distance of each other. Just to be clear!). Glad I had baby wipes with me!
Event warmup:

Stroll over. Nothing else.

Comments:

This was great! I felt in control and easy for the first 8 miles or so, then got a little tired and my form started to go, but then I felt OK again. Once I got off the ATT it was a bit of a slog but after mile 11 I knew Becky and the boys were just a mile away and the finish not far behind. I was surprised at how smooth and good I felt (first 8 miles...not really at the end but thats OK)! My previous PR was 1:39:45 so I smashed that. Was hoping for a 1:38! Couldn't be happier with this. OK, I would be happier if I broke 1:35 but the course might have been a touch long and I ain't complaining (Garmin said 13.19 but that could be my Garmin's issue). Took a GU at around mile 4 and then again around mile 8. That was plenty for me. I passed a lot of people on the course and only got passed by Andrew. He finished in 1:33 without a taper and looked very smooth. I tried to catch one final guy in the finish shoot but my calves started to cramp up when I pushed. Almost got him got just not enough time :-) Seeing the boys and Becky at mile 12.5 was really fun and cool. I put on a little "I feel great spurt for them" then went round the bend and there was a hill and the energy burst made me pay! ha :-) Felt great at the finish and chatted to Jenn and Bill for a bit. Bill was flying when he went by me on the way back (after the turnaround) and Jenn had a good race, so happy for them. Now I am hoping the marathoners meet their goals! Looking forward to hearing their battles stories.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure- this went well and felt good.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk back home with Michelle Beard. She did great too! Didn't really train for this specifically and finished in 1:50. She is a very smooth runner.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I felt this was a great race for me. More training would mean going faster but this a great PR for me.

Event comments:

Great job FSSeries! Very nice race. My only compaint is the shortage of port-a-potty's. Races NEVER have enough of those. I would pay $10 more just to be sure the line is not 30 deep with only 20 mins to go to race time.
