Run
Comments: Run was great till about mile 17.5 where I started walking some. Calfs felt a bit tight, more than usual. I was wearing calf sleeves but they still got worn out on the hills. Run fitness was really only up to 18 in training so I thought I may suffer there. I feel like this was a good breakthrough workout. What would you do differently?: Pacing was right on in the beginning. I think it just a fitness issue. Post race
Warm down: hobble and wobble a mile or 2 back to the car. What limited your ability to perform faster: fitness Event comments: Great race that I will do again. Marathons are always really crowded for me at the start, and I don't like that. I packed 5 gels with me which worked great with the on course water and powerade. Back and neck were sore most of the time but I don't feel like it affected my performance much. It was a 11min PR, but still not good enough to break 4hrs. Perhaps I will do another marathon soon. bowl of oatmeal and 1/2 cup coffee black. THen sipped on a gotarade until start. Traffic was a nightmare, actually got out of the car on the freeway and joined many others in running up the embankment and over the fence. Ended up walking about 1/5 miles to the start. Traffic wasw so bad they actually held up the race for 30 min to allow more people to get to the start.
warm up was the walk there. Also some light stretching.
