Swim
Comments: Overall I can't complain about the swim. It was my first time swimming with a bunch of people. I did get hit a few times but I was proud that I remained calm and just kept moving along. What would you do differently?: Being that my swim time was slow, I need to practice, practice. Transition 1
Comments: Transition was slow, but I wanted to make sure I was doing everything right. I fumbled a bit with my jacket zipper, but I got on my bike just fine. Some poor soul fell right in front of me as he was trying to mount his bike. What would you do differently?: Do more triathlons to be more efficient at transitions. Bike
Comments: Overall, the bike was fine. Traffic control was good and there were a lot of volunteers on the course to direct you. What would you do differently?: I'm average on the bike. I just need to ride more. There's is definetely room for improvement in this area. Transition 2
Comments: Ran with my bike to T2. Stripped off my jacket, kept my gloves on, put on my hat, already had my running shoes on (wore them on the bike), and off I went. What would you do differently?: Again, do more triathlons to gain a more efficient transition. Run
Comments: I was very pleased with my run. Faster than I expected. I ran with a guy and we were both just trying to stay together. Before I knew it I had a quarter of a mile left. The guy kicked it up a notch and passed me at the end. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Post race
Warm down: Not much. Walked around a bit. Started to get cold and put on some warm clothes. We went inside the gym to wait for the results and awards. Had some post race food and drink. My sister received a nice plaque and gift certificate for her placing second overall. I'm so proud of her. I later found out my race results weren't posted because my timing chip didn't match my bib number. It was resolved the next day, so that was a relief. Turns out I was third in my age group. I really enjoyed this race. It is such a great feeling to get through your first triathlon. My sister and family were so proud. I am so hooked now. I can't wait to sign up for another one!!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing really. I did the best I could. :) Event comments: I'm a triathlete!!! Last updated: 2009-12-09 12:00 AM

Did not sleep very well. Got up at 5:30am and had two slices of toast with peanut butter, a banana, and a cup of coffee. I double checked to make sure I had everything in my bag. I went to the bathroom about a thousand times before I finally left to meet my sister at the race.
My sister and I found our spots to rack our bikes. I laid everything out on a bright orange towel and scanned where I was to make sure I knew where to run to when the swim was over. The one thing I wished I brought was flip flops. I had to take my running shoes off to lay them on my towel before I went into the school (where the pool was). It was cold and a little nasty walking around barefoot all over the place. Oh well, at least I knew the chlorine would sufficiently clean my feet, so no worries right?
I was able to get in a couple hundred yards warm up in the pool which was nice. Then I got to wait a looooong time before I actually started the race. Since I seeded myself a little slower, I got to start later. My sister started about 50 minutes ahead of me....so much for my warm up. LOL
