Comments:

Felt steady and strong in the pool. Could have gone a lot harder, but there were so many people breastroking and backstroking and clogging up the lanes. Did my best to (politely) weave my way through them. Had to stop at the first wall to adjust my goggles. Wish it was longer so I could make up some more ground!
What would you do differently?:

Not be so polite at the walls. Get under the lane line and go. I didn't want to jump out in front of anyone, but there were a lot of people "resting" at the ends. Go harder and not worry about others...it is still a race.
Transition 1
  • 02m 20s
Comments:

This was a reverse, so T1 was coming in off the run and onto the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. It went fine.

Comments:

Now this was an adventure! I tried to wear my sunglasses to keep the hard rain from pegging me in the eyes, but I couldn't see anything with them on. I stuck them on my bike and went without. The rain and wind was pretty gnarly and I was soaked. After the first loop (of 3) I began to feel pretty strong. When I rode down wind I passed a lot of people, but going into the wind a lot of people passed me.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on riding into the wind.
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

T2 was coming in off bike and heading out to pool. I took a little too long here. I had to peel off my soaked shirt, shoes, and socks. In the morning I didn't set out my cap and goggles so I had to dig a bit in my bag to get them. Running from the transition area to the pool was a bit sketchy because of the swampy mud and pebbles.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my cap and goggles are out and ready.
Run
  • 26m 39s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 08m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

As soon as the race started the rain came. I avoided most of the puddles except the huge lake of water we had to go through near the end of the run. It was so deep your whole shoe was submersed. I felt very slow in the run. I think that standing in the cold waiting for the start got me tight. There never was a time that I felt in a groove.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder I guess. I'm not sure if I could have given the weather conditions, but I would like to think that I could have ran closer to 24 or 25 minutes.
Post race
Warm down:

Got out of pool ate a banana and jumped in the truck to crank the heater and get dry!

Event comments:

This race was not the best organized race, but it was fun. The volunteers were VERY nice. Bike course was nice and open. I will probably do it again next year.
