Pre-race routine:

Stayed in Warner robins with J22 Friday night and had some pasta at Johnny Carinos, a couple of beers and lots of water. Got up about 6 AM coffee, half bagel with peanut butter and honey. Drove to race and picked up our race packets. The traffic was bad getting into the parking lot, so we had to rush a bit. fortunately there was time for a last porta potty stop
Event warmup:

no warm up, just some light stretching

Comments:

SO I started out FAST- 6:48 first mile and low 7's for the first few. I decided to hang on to a sub 8's as long as I could. I dropped to the 8's by mile 11, 9's by mile 20 and the last three miles were pure survival in the 10's. I managed to run a 1:40 first half which would have been my 2nd best standalone time. There is a hill at mile 11/23 that destroyed me the 2nd time around. It was raining pretty hard at this point. The last 3 miles were a march of pain, sheer will was the only thing that got me through those and I started cramping up with a mile to go. At the turn with .3 miles to go Jonathan caught up to me and I sprinted with him to the finish and we ended up crossing about the same time (he was a couple seconds in front of me) Immediately after I was cooked. I was glad that was over with
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. My plantar fascitis was going to affect me, so I wanted to get as far as I could, as quickly as I could before it really hurt. I went out a bit too fast, but everything worked out. I like to start fast and naturally fade. If I want to get competitive I need to be comfortable on longer 20 mile plus runs
Post race
Warm down:

Walked very slowly in the rain to the expo area. That sucked. I sat down and J22 and I both were shivering uncontrollably. I wished I had one of those mylar blankets. My mood improved when I finally got the energy up to look at the results, and I found I had placed 3rd AG. got a change of clothes, grabbed my hardware and we rolled out

What limited your ability to perform faster:

injuries, lack of long running. No complaints here though- 11 minute PR

Event comments:

Good small race. A great BQ race for you fasties. Cheap and low key, but enough support and chip timing. I would do this again, and would love to see what I can do in the Half
