Run
Comments: Felt pretty good and left nothing in the tank. Tried to pick it up for the last mile but there was nothing there. My goal was to maintain a sub 10MM pace. Got caught up in the moment and started out to fast at about 8:30. Settled down to 10 and caught my breath for a couple of miles. Once I got more comfortable picked it up and maintained 9:20 or so for the remainder. Strange that we wore chips but there were no chip mats at the start. My Garmin measured the race at 10.09 miles with a time of 1:35:15. I guess I lost about 30 seconds at the start waiting for those in front to get going. Walked to drink water at each of the stops at 6 and 8 miles. Roughly 6 oz at each stop. What would you do differently?: Not get so excited in the beginning and settle in to a pace a little quicker. Post race
Warm down: Started talking with family and such and forgot to to a post race stretch. I think I am a little stiff still because of it. What limited your ability to perform faster: Skipped my last long run 2 weeks prior. Event comments: Look forward to doing this race again next year and breaking 1:25! Race started a little later than a typical race at 10:00 am. Good thing because I did not go to sleep until around 3:30 the night before. I still have not figured out how to relax enough to fall asleep the night before a race.
There was an indoor gymnastics area to stretch and warmup.
