Swim
Comments: I started on the right side, and the course curved left. Since I was in the 10th wave, there were slower swimmers that I kept getting caught up on. It was rough and I went off course from the beginning. I swallowed water near the first buoy. I kept getting off course and I wasted a great deal of time because of this. What would you do differently?: I really need to work on sighting and keeping my line. If I could have done that better, I would have been able to swim through the other swimmers. Transition 1
Comments: Transition went fine. It was a long run that wound through transition and the cement was HORRIBLY rough. Everyone had numb feet, and it felt like we were running on nails. I took time to lightly towel off, put my shoes on, arms warmers, thin gloves, sun glasses, and helmet. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Bike felt good. I went hard right out of transition and straight up the first steep hill. I immediately started passing people. I passed 100-150 people throughout the entire bike. That was probably the best part about starting in wave 10. I passed Michelle, Ashley, and Monica. I cheered on my teammates that passed me going the other way also. I kept the heat up and hammered the course, even on the hills. I didn't drink much at all because the water I swallowed during the swim wasn't sitting well. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Train more. Transition 2
Comments: Transition felt like hell on my feet again. I anticipated the last big hill a little early and removed my feet a little too soon. I don't regret it though, it worked out perfectly. I took off my helmet and gloves and put on my shoes, grabbed by hat/race belt, and took off. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: The run was a battle. I went hard on the bike and my legs were feeling it. I don't think I went too hard though. The loops felt like that were dragging on for ages. I ate one GU about 1.25 miles in. My stomach became upset, and I had to fight it off as best I could. I didn't give me any issues until after the race. I kept up my pace and encouraged my other teammates. I finished with a sprint and left nothing on the course. What would you do differently?: Train more. Post race
Warm down: No much of a warm down. I was exhausted and my stomach was going crazy. I made several trips to the bathroom. I drank about 20oz of Gatorade but didn't eat anything due to stomach issues. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. Event comments: During the race I kept telling myself that I needed to push it, and that this was my time to exhibit all of the hard work that I had put forth for months and months. I knew that I had the ability and the training behind me to finish the race and give it everything I had. I am proud of what I accomplished no matter what I say or how I complain. Woke up at 6AM. Drank Gatorade, ate some dried mango slices, ate one Powerbar. Ate another Powerbar while setting up my transition and drank more Gatorade. Finished setting up and hung out with the rest of my team to wait for the start.
The park was flooded and freezing so there wasn't much of a warmup. I ate one GU 15 mins before my start and I headed to the water. 5mins before my wave, I waded into the water and submerged and splashed to acclimatize.
