Swim
Comments: I ranked 89th out of 226 men. The first part of the swim went just fine. The problem started when the lady two places ahead of me slowed down and caused a traffic jam in the lane. Wouldn't have been a major problem if she allowed those of us that were faster to pass but she wouldn't. So, there were about four of us behind her all trying to pass at the same time and it was causing a lot of problems. It took a lot of energy to get around her. What would you do differently?: Next time I won't be so nice, lol. I'll just push the slow lady out of the way. I don't think I'll wear my top next time. It seemed to drag a lot even though it was tight. Seemed like I was doing a lot more work with it on. Transition 1
Comments: All I had to do was take my goggles off and put on my socks, sunglasses, and helmet. I lost some time because they (I'm assuming the race volunteers) had repositioned a few of the bikes on my rack (mine included) because there was some instability. That wasn't too much of a problem because my bike is blue and easy to spot but they didn't move my towel with my stuff. It took me some time to find it because it was underneath another bike. Everything after that was good. I had rubber-banded my shoes on my pedals because there was quite a ways to run to the mount line. Mounting went great. I didn't run and jump but I did get up to speed then put my feet in my shoes. What would you do differently?: I want to get the run and jump down for mounting the bike and save a few more secs. I also think I'll put my top on in T1. It seemed to drag in the swim. Bike
Comments: I felt good on the bike. Luckily it was early so the wind wasn't blowing hardly at all. I think I timed my nutrition really well. I ate my Gu right after the turn-around so it would kick in right at the end and at the beginning of the run and it did. What would you do differently?: I'd like to improve my transition on to and off of the bike. Like to get the running start and stop down. Transition 2
Comments: Took my feet out of my shoes before the dismount but didn't jump off. I lost time because when I racked my bike, the bike across from me fell off. It took me a couple tries to get it back on the rack. Like I mentioned earlier, the rack wasn't that stable. It was just PVC pipe. What would you do differently?: I'd jump off the bike. I'd also look into getting some speed laces. I'll also try not to knock other peoples' bikes off the rack. Run
Comments: Felt pretty good on the run. Didn't feel bad transition from bike to run. I'd ran the course a few times before the race so I knew what to expect with the big hill. I felt prepared for it so it wasn't that bad, at least mentally. What would you do differently?: I think I could have pushed even harder at the end. I think I need to get a better idea of how much gas is in the tank at the end so I can use it all up. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: I think just not having a bigger endurance base built up would be the main thing. Some technical work on all aspects would help also. Event comments: I really enjoyed the race. I couldn't have asked for a better first triathlon. I picked it because it was close to my house and I could train on the actual course and I think that helped immensely. All the volunteers were nice and supportive. All of their directions and markings were clear. I don't have any other races to compare it too but everything worked out pretty well. My only gripe would be that they moved my bike and not my stuff which caused a little confusion. Seeing how I wasn't in the running for first place, it wasn't too big a deal. Overall, I had a lot of fun. Last updated: 2009-12-21 12:00 AM

Nothing special. Ate some cereal and a banana. Everything was pretty much ready to go when I got up. Got to the race about 15 mins before the TA opened. Checked my bike and gear, checked in and set up my area.
The race was held at the rec center I was a member of, so I went in and shot baskets. Not a typical warm-up but it got the blood flowing and it kept my mind off the race and calmed my nerves.
