Swim
Comments: I was thrilled with this swim. First one EVER in a race where I did NOT have a panic attack or have to walk/back stroke/etc. Yippeee!!!! Yes, I'm still slow, but not having a major attack at the beginning sure helped me along!! ;) Last year swim time was 12:09. What would you do differently?: Keep practicing!!! ;) Transition 1
Comments: Not horrible, but could be better. Advantage of being a slow swimmer is most everyone is already out so no one is really in the way. ;) Last years time 2:56 What would you do differently?: I need to practice these. Bike
Comments: Here is where I suffered. Yes, call me an idiot. I did an 11 mile run the day before this event. I've been lacking in my long slow runs in this 1/2 mary training program so I really needed to get some distance in. Well, here is where I suffered. My quads just could not muster any energy to push harder. I could not get a comfortable pace going. I was either spinning away and not moving or setting my quads on fire. Last years bike 35:54 What would you do differently?: Not run 11 miles the day before a race??? D'OH! Transition 2
Comments: I don't know why I alway take so long here. Should be faster than this but I alway seem to run into issues. Bike was locking up with another bike while trying to rack it. Bike shoe on foot instead of running shoe. Garmin would not snap into wrist band...wha wha wha. Last year time 3:05 What would you do differently?: Yanks, I need to get these. Garmin 310XT???? so I don't have to mess with taking it on/off etc. Run
Comments: The run was in the park center field area. Nice path, scenic and lots of great crowd support. Really loved seeing all the team members running along too and high fiving everyone! Last years time 31:51 What would you do differently?: Again if I didn't run 11 miles the day before, I likely could have shaved off a minute or so here. Post race
Warm down: Found Pat after the race (she was already done and showered!!!). We hung around for the awards. Found out Pat's chip was not working so she did not get any of her splits, but luckily she had her time on her watch still set and they took that as her official time. She won first place in her AG! What limited your ability to perform faster: Running the day before the event 11 miles!!!! dumb a$$. Event comments: Great crowd support, very organized. If I were a faster swimmer, I probably would have issues with the pool swim thing. For me, it doesn't matter, every is slow anyway by the time I get into it! My overall time from last year was 1:25:53 Last updated: 2009-12-21 12:00 AM

Up at 4 am, this race is very close to home so I only needed about 15 minutes to get there. Had my coffee, bagel with almond butter and water to go. Loaded up the car and took off. I did this race last year so I have something to compare now!
Set up my transition area, found Pat, said hi then headed over to the pool for a swim. Jumped in and did about 250 yards warm up (almost the race length). Was feeling good but still getting worried about the darn panic attacks.
