Swim
Comments: I knew that the swim would be my hardest segment. This is the longest that I have swum in a race and it didn't help that I didn't get any time in the pool for the two weeks prior to this race. My goal was to survive and beat 27:00. What would you do differently?: Spend more time in the pool. Before I tired, my form and sighting was good. Transition 1
Comments: T1 continues to be a thorn in my side... My calves cramped after I arrived at my bike and I had to spend a minute stretching them out before I could attempt to get my wetsuit off. It is still tight getting it over my ankles. I may look to cutting the legs shorter... What would you do differently?: Try to hydrate more, pre-race to ward off cramps. Bike
Comments: The course was pretty flat and I cruised pretty well. Based on earlier cramping, I couldn't hammer it as much as I wanted to, but I was pretty happy with the time. What would you do differently?: Drive the course before the race - I knew where I was in general, but it's hard to know when to push when riding a virgin course. Transition 2
Comments: I am really happy with this time. I ran in, parked the bike, put on my shoes and ran out. What would you do differently?: Not much. Run
Comments: Gas continues to plague my run, though not as bad as my last race. I switched drinks on the bike to G2 Berry and it definitely went down better. However, I did have to stop a number of time to relieve the pressure. Next year, I'll continue to work on the nutrition aspect of my race day prep and hope to find a combo that works. What would you do differently?: I continued to cramp on the run. I'll try more fluids next time. Post race
Event comments: As usual, the Max team put on a great race. I am planning on building my 2011 race calendar around their races next year. Last updated: 2009-12-22 12:00 AM
