Swim
Comments: It was a very tough swim. With all the exitment of a beach start and also being my first open water swim, it took me a while to settle in to my breathing and pace rythm. Almost 400 mts of crazyness, I got a bit nervous because there's no way I would have finished at that pace. Finally found my rythm and things went really well from there. Caught two waves in front. Last leg people were really strugling. The chop and the waves were very inconsistent, you didn't know where the next wave was going to hit you from on your next breath. I managed to continue with a constant pace all the time and didn't have to stop, except once to go around a couple girls that were trying to catch their breath. I asked how they were doing and they said, ok.I got out of the water feeling ok. What would you do differently?: More open water training. Transition 1
Comments: Wet suit got stuck on my left heel. It was hell!!! Took it easy, wore a cycling-comfortable cycling/sleevless shirt vs the tri shirt. Decided to sacrifice time on T1 for comfort. Also wore socks, no regrets, my feet have no blisters!!! Long transition run in and out. What would you do differently?: Practice getting rid of wetsuit. Find a comfortable trishirt. Bike
Comments: Felt good on the bike. A day after RETUL fitting, a bit uncomfortable on my back, but felt more power. Loved the racing wheels. I tried to stick to cadence and HR and things went well. Very windy, particularly downtown when going across intersetions. Speeds were from 17 to 28 mph depending on the winds. What would you do differently?: Train more........ need to spend a lot more time on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: Dismount area got me by surprise, didn't have achance to unstrap my shoes. Long run to transition. What would you do differently?: Practice more dismounting without shoes. Run
Comments: Still struggling. Second half I had to slow jog/walk to bring HR down. Tried to maintain constant pace, but legs were hurting and felt tired. What would you do differently?: Need to take running training a lot more seriously. I need to incorporate some track and intervals training. And increase milage. Post race
Warm down: Crashed....... drink lots of everything. Eat some food and got a great post-race massage. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fitness. Need to train more. Event comments: St. Anthony's is by far the best race I've ever attended. Instant favorite!!! Will try to participate again next year and as many times as I can. Great venue, organization, race courses, get to see big names racing on the PRO category. Can't think of one single negative. AWESOME RACE!! Met a few BT members, they were great and VERY supportive!
