Swim
Comments: They told us it would be a 400m swim, so I went without my wetsuit. It was certainly longer than 400m, and I may have been better off with the wetsuit. What would you do differently?: Consider the wetsuit despite the short distance, learn to swim. Transition 1
Comments: Other than the relay lady who decided to step into the middle of the row as I tried to run through, resulting in a collision, this was pretty good. What would you do differently?: Get tri shoes that I don't have to buckle and ratchet. I would consider trying clipped in shoes, but I can't fathom riding and running without socks. Maybe I'll give it a try. Bike
Comments: Having this many competitors sent off so quickly on the swim so everyone could be out of the water before the storm hit made for a very crowded course. The bike traffic made it tricky at times. What would you do differently?: Push harder. I found it hard to get into the mindset that this was a sprint. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Go faster? Run
Comments: The hills sapped some strength, but I should have pushed harder, especially in the last mile. Post race
Warm down: Shivered for an hour hiding under the eaves of a building while the torrential rain from the thunderstorm passed. I'm glad I was off of the course before that hit, but I wish we could have gotten our stuff out of transition and back to the vehicle without having to suffer all of that rain. Event comments: The event coordinators did the best they could with what mother nature handed them. The distances for the swim and bike may have been off a bit (long in both cases), but what can you expect with 30 minutes to change the course and get the race off on time. I'll be looking forward to racing this again, at its intended Olympic distance. Last updated: 2009-12-27 12:00 AM

Up way early, had some cereal and juice, and off to the shuttle. Set up transition, then milled about talking with friends and taking it all in. I was very disappointed to hear the announcement that bad weather was coming, so the event would be shortened to a sprint. That took a lot of wind out of my sails.
I just jogged some near the beach, having ditched my plan to run some then swim some when I found out it was now a sprint and that I'd have less time before my start time than originally scheduled.
