Swim
Comments: The water was shallow so I waded until I reached my armpits. I was able to keep up with the people swimming already. Between the first and second buoys I caught some of the wave in front that left 4 minutes earlier. By the second buoy the fast women from the wave behind caught me. The final leg was hard because we swam into the rising sun and sighting was hard. I used the bright pink caps of the fast women as a guide. I did not kill myself on the swim as this is only my 2nd olympic and I did not know how to pace myself. I concentrated on good form, but could have gone faster. What would you do differently?: Push it a bit harder Transition 1
Comments: Went fairly well not much to say. Bike
Comments: Had a good ride foe the most part. Felt twinges in my lower back at about mile 12. Had to come out of aero every so often after that to release the tension. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Strengthen core muscles more and work on my back. Transition 2
Comments: Had trouble getting the socks and running shoes on. What would you do differently?: Skip the socks. Run
Comments: I ran the first 2 miles but then had to slow down which became a walk/run due to back issues. Not being able to run continuously probably cost me 5 or 6 places in my age group. I kept saying "What would Jens do?" and then would run for bit, but then had to stop and walk. What would you do differently?: See above Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Back issues Event comments: Love the course and I will be back! Although Pinehurst is another course completely (i.e. hilly) it ws my only other olympic and I was 36 minutes faster. (This course was 2 miles shorter on the bike). They have a HIM here in late October and depending on how Augusta goes I may return for that! Last updated: 2009-12-27 12:00 AM

Awoke at 4:30. Ate a bagel and a sausage biscuit with a diet Pepsi. Drove to the site and was setting up before sunrise at a little before 6 AM
