Pre-race routine:

Got up early had a bowl of cheerios and coffee, and waited for my ride to show.
Event warmup:

Nada, got to the race and did the setup deal. Met BT'ers sfm15 and Otter_sh and talked for a bit. Had a relative 'at ease' going, wasn't nervous or over thinking the deal.
Swim
  • 12m 30s
  • 528 yards
  • 02m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well hot dang! With only 7200 yard of swimming in the backyard pool in April and May I had the best swim at this event ever, hot dang! Just went out easy and never really did tire. Had a nice rhythm on the main stretch into the waves and did a good job of drafting. Was very pleased when I saw the time at the ladder. Instead of going wide at the first turn I joined the cattle crowd of walkers at the buoy. This actually gave me a RI.
What would you do differently?:

Actually do some training!
Transition 1
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

13/49, 136/650. Was going to put the shoes on the bike but decided against it. Not a big deal as the run with the bike to mounting line was short. Jumped on and was clipped in on the first two pedal stakes and got up to speed. Never did do a reverse walk into transition to map my run in from the swim. Actually got a bit disoriented and turned into the wrong aisle. Instead of stopping I ran through it and wrapped around to my rack aisle, lost 5-10 secs there.
What would you do differently?:

Map out the transition before the race starts.
Bike
  • 41m 43s
  • 15.55 miles
  • 22.37 mile/hr
Comments:

All the hard trainer work this winter/spring paid off big time. Had a great ride. Crosswind was a slight headwind on the way down and after 3 miles was maintaining high 21-23. Had a couple of instances where I had to hold up a bit on passing people but it actually helped me keep my self in check for later. Second half was a hard push in with only one instance of dropping below 21, to sit up and loosen up my shoulders, otherwise I was pushing 22-24 a majority of the time. Official advertised race course distance is 15 mile but it is actually 15.55-15.6 depending on your speedo reading.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

23/49, 216/650. Had a great dismount and run into T2. First time with the Yankz (put them on last night!) and pulled them on without a problem after I cleaned my feet off. Forgot my visor and race belt and backtracked half the rack to snag them. Didn't have them on the ground next to the shoes but hanging from the rack.
What would you do differently?:

Put the visor and race belt next to the shoes, that cost a couple seconds.
Run
  • 27m 19s
  • 3.38 miles

Comments:

I knew this was going to be a tough run being that I was severely limited in the run in April and May with the calf injury. Had to stop at the 1st water stop ~ 1/4 mile out of T2 as the calf's were getting tight, never did stretch them on the bike heading in. Took in some G walked for a few steps then ran again. Had a 9' pace at the half mile mark and by 1 mile marker I was starting to feel better. Had my 10oz hand water bottle with me and used it to put water on my head. Walked through the 2nd water stop at 1.5 mi mark and refilled the water bottle let the HR drop a bit then went back at it. 2nd mile was faster even with the quick walk at the WS. At 2mi marker I was feeling very comfortable and relaxed and picked up the pace to push a good 3rd mile. Cranked it out after the 3mi marker, didn't have anyone to catch or anyone behind me to make me run scared!
What would you do differently?:

Given the amount of training in the past 8 weeks not too much.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran into a couple of people, got some beer and food, then left.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Run and swim fitness.

Event comments:

There is a Tri-god, cloud cover stayed with us most of the morning and it really helped on the bike and run.
