Swim
Comments: My goal was to sight better and relax so I could swim without feeling out of breath. Both were much better than my first tri. What would you do differently?: Swim a little faster. Start a little more toward the middle of the pack. Transition 1
Comments: While walking/running up the hill I pulled my wetsuit half off with my swim cap and goggles in one of the sleeves. After the race, both were gone. They must have fallen out while running up the hill. When I got to my spot, the guy next to me was sitting on the ground right in front of my spot getting his shoes on. I was at the end of the row and couldn;t get to my stuff at all. I was very cordial. "Excuse me old chap, mind if I get my race gear on?" Just kidding, I did say excuse me and he moved with no problem. It was his first tri (my second). I would like to get some bike some I can go bare foot in. Right now I'm using mountain bike shoes and they are kind of rough inside. What would you do differently?: be faster Bike
Comments: I was a half mile an hour faster than last week (my first race) so I was happy with that. What would you do differently?: Train more. I just started road biking this year. Transition 2
Comments: I'm happy with under a minute. I like to keep it simple. What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: Brutally hot and humid. The sun turned the dam and rocks on both sides of the dam in to a sauna. I ran 40 seconds per minute slower than last week. I was sick all week and the heat was brutal (ambulances driving on to the dam to pick people up). I walked the 2 big hills that just killed my time. I felt like I was going to puke after the run so I don't think I could have gone much harder. What would you do differently?: Run more. My weekly mileage has been way down since the St. Louis half mary last month and it shows. Post race
Warm down: Poured water on my head and drank water. I tried to eat after a bit but it didn't taste good. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being sick all week, the heat, reduced run mileage. Event comments: The swim, bike, and run courses are nice, flat and fast. 1863 events (3disciplines in MI) did a fantastic job. They were well organized, walked the newbies through the process, were extremely friendly and available for questions, warned everyone about the heat, said they would have plenty of cold drinks and were bringing extra ice, and they did. They organized the local parks department, police, army corp of engineers, etc to make sure every turn, high traffic area, etc had a race "official" present. This was the second year for the Carlyle IL Sprint and Olympic tri and I highly recommend it. Last updated: 2010-01-01 12:00 AM

I was sick all week with congestion and a sore throat. The night before the race, I had cold sweats and chills. I decided that if I had muscle fatigue or bad aches in the morning, I would bag the race. I felt good enough to race energy wise in the morning (still had a sore throat).
Ate a banana. Planned to eat a yogurt but didn't put it in the fridge before bed.
Met up with fellow BT'r bigr82 (Ryan) and his wife Annie. Racing with friends is WAY more fun than racing alone.
Tried to stay cool. Swam a little.
