Swim
Comments: I loved the swim even though I didn't have a particularly good swim. Ten seconds into the water, all my fears and trepidation went away. It was fun. And I can't swim a straight line to save my life. I was constantly pulling right. A volunteer on a kayak had to tell me to get back on course. Clockwise is a challenge for me. My first OWS. My first wetsuit swim. I loved it. It was good no matter the outcome. What would you do differently?: I MUST get better at siting and swimming straight. Transition 1
Comments: Slow, slow, slow. I didn't want to rush through transition, but this was ridiculous. I was a little disoriented coming out of the water. Struggled getting out of my suit. Slow getting into my shoes. Just plain slow. What would you do differently?: I have to get better at getting out of the suit. Bike
Comments: I struggled to get into a groove. My quads burned early and throughout. I sepnt some time in aero. I just didn't feel like I was moving though my bike computer said otherwise. Getting passed a lot didn't help matters. What would you do differently?: My bike computer said I averaged 16.5 MPH. Don't know how much faster I can go. Transition 2
Comments: Walk in. Park the bike. Walk out. Using cages and my running shoes makes T2 a breeze. What would you do differently?: If I could jog through T2, I'd be faster. Of course my calves might have something to say about that. Run
Comments: That hill getting out of transition was brutal. I power walked it for a few yards. Octagenarian jog. Whatever it took. My calves were biting hard. But I slowly got into a groove. I did the first mile in 10:46. By the second mile it was clear I was going to hang a negative split on this run. I hoped I could break 30, but getting close and posting sub 10 minute miles was a nice consolation. What would you do differently?: Have the month of February to train. Not being able to train because of all the snow just killed me. Post race
Warm down: Walked a bit. Had a second PowerGel. Stretched lightly. Gathered my stuff and walked the bike back. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not much. Swimming a straight line. Bikinging harder. Running faster. Losing the month of February. I could have been in a better place but no way I'm complaining. Event comments: Extremely well run race. Very professional. Can't say enough about SetUp Events. Doing three more of their races this year. Should be fun. Last updated: 2010-01-01 12:00 AM

Decent night's sleep. Got up at 5:45. Peanut butter bagels for breakfast. 20 minutes drive to the race.
Jog back to the car to pick up my transition bag. Stretching. A quick dip in the water right before my swim.
