Comments: I was more calm than I expected. I was pleased I focused most of my training for the past 6 months on the swim, since that was my weakest area. It paid off. When I sighted the way I practiced, I did well. When I tried to swim with my head up to see, it really took a lot of my energy. There was a lot of sea grass for the last 200 yards or so... every stroke had grass caught it it, and it felt like it was wrapping around my legs - weird feeling! What would you do differently?: I wasn't prepared to run into transition from the swim, and yet this is what everyone was doing. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I wasn't ready to try to mount my bike with the shoes already on the pedals, so I opted to be safe and put on my shoes in the transition area. Didn't need to take off a wetsuit (they weren't allowed). Taped my gloves to the handlebars and put them on after I got started. I like using them because they give me confidence to go faster (in case of a spill, my hands are somewhat protected.) What would you do differently?: Would practice mounting bike and shoes on. ![]() Bike
What would you do differently?: Would have pushed harder more consistently. This is the place I could really improve next time. I have biking experience, but I didn't lean on it as hard as I should have, mostly because I was scared of using up my reserve for the run. I need to get my cateye installed, which would give me info to work with. Need to work more on hills and do more than the race distance before race day. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: I should not have sat down to put my shoes on.... (I get heart palpitations when my head goes lower than my heart, esp when exerting) maybe get a small foldable stool next time? Bodyglide on both sets of shoes worked very well. No tying needed, no socks. What would you do differently?: Unclick and hang helmet to bike while running to rack. Set up run gear based on how bike will rack AFTER the bike portion - set stuff under where rear wheel will be, instead of having to go around to the front of the rack to get it. ![]() Run
Comments: I walked 4 times, even though I told myself I wasn't going to... When other started to walk around me, it made me want to join them, so I did. What would you do differently?: I would run - even if slowly - the entire time. I would not base my performance on what others around me are doing. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked around time my heart rate came down. Sprayed with hoses. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being a newbie, just learning how it works... training my body to move faster Event comments: Wonderful first time tri - very challenging, but 48% of the attendees were first timers! And 58% were women. Last updated: 2010-01-02 12:00 AM

3:30 am - woke, showered, dressed and gathered items, stopped at store for a small bottle of milk for my cereal, 5:00 arrived at race and parked, ate shredded wheat and fresh blueberries/raspberries (1/2 my regular portion) and a cup of coffee, read the Bible and prayed... Sun came up, then I took my gear and set up transition area. Then I ran about 1/2 mile to warm up. Back to the car, put everything away I wouldn't need, hid the key fob near the car and went to the swim start.I was fortunately able to stretch for about 45 min while I watched 5 other waves start before me.
