Pre-race routine:

Slept 9 hours solid??? Not what I was expecting at all. Got up at 7:30 had a banana anda cup of Green tea, had another banana and a yogurt about an hour later. Got to the event at 9:00. registered and started the wait.
Event warmup:

Nervous energy was my main warm up. Walked around and did a bit of stretching. No swim warm up due to pool swim.
Swim
  • 20m 41s
  • 547 yards
  • 03m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was in the 5th wave into the pool. they were starting us at 1/2 length intervals and when someone got out of the pool. 4 to a lane, it was not crowded. Time includes my time in T1, Full dry off and run up a circular flight of stairs to the bike racks, The officials were concerned about hypothermia so the transition area was split into indoor to change and then out to get shoes on and get bike. My estimate was a 6:00 transition.
What would you do differently?:

Not leave my goggles in the pocket of my warm up pants. It did get nice adrenaline rush just before getting in the water from it, that was nice. Borrowed a pair from my training partner in a later heat than me and all was good.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 45m 42s
  • 10.87 miles
  • 14.27 mile/hr
Comments:

Ride was good. ice under the bridge overpasses kinda sketched me out the first lap, better prepared on the next 2 laps.

Coming out of the transition my tights got hung up on the back of my saddle, took about 1/2km to get them adjusted so I could sit without a huge wedgie.
What would you do differently?:

Bottle got snagged in my holder and i didn't want to mess with it for the rest of the run, check fit better next time.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 42m 54s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 13m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was COLD. I was cold. It was cold out... I was slow. That being said I was 8 minutes faster than my best 5km stand alone from last year. Losing almost 40 pounds this winter helps I guess.
What would you do differently?:

I should have kept the windbreaker on for the run and HTFU. my shin splints will go away by next week. I probably could have pushed a little harder at the start of the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and stretched for 5 minutes after, got my post race survey from the cutest volunteer kids (mine) and had some fruit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I still weigh 285 pounds...

Event comments:

Great way to get a guy hooked. I know I can cut my run time down by 5 minutes with a little better planning.
