Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 26/66
Pre-race routine:

wake up painfully early with the daylight savings change, PB&Honey on organic wheat bread. Final check of bag, commute to venue. Set-up transition.
Event warmup:

stretch, swam 200 easy.
Swim
  • 05m 33s
  • 328 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

decent swim, tried not to go out too fast on the first 100. was able to clear traffic in the lanes without much trouble.
What would you do differently?:

I was fine with where I seeded myself timewise, felt pretty good throughout the 300. Not sure I'd make many changes for this pool course.
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

was a slow-ish transition as I took time to dry off since it was a chilly day. shoes went on easy - so did helmet & shades. didn't feel quite as disoriented/out of breath as I have in other races.
What would you do differently?:

practice more to be more fluid and efficient.
Bike
  • 41m 14s
  • 12 miles
  • 17.46 mile/hr
Comments:

averaged 17.5 on the bike course - which is a improvement over monster tri in the fall. Felt good throughout the course, my second lap is where I lost time. Wind seemed more of a factor on this lap and when coupled with fatigue it slowed me down in several areas. the course was pretty crowded, but I was still able to pass and not block.
What would you do differently?:

i stayed in the drops a lot, work on being more aero and efficient.
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

transition to run was slower than i thought it would be. feet and hands were cold.
What would you do differently?:

practice
Run
  • 23m 35s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

good run for me. was fastest 5K i've had in a tri since I started doing them.
What would you do differently?:

i'd like to practice bike/run bricks as I had a tough time with my running form off the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

walk/stretch plus Recoverite

Event comments:

i thought the race production was great. the bag piper @ swim start was cool and the post race band and events were great. I wasn't quite ready for pancakes, but I saw lots of people enjoying them post-race. There were a lot of racers, but the event seemed to run well. I look forward to doing this race again.
