Swim
Comments: had some goals for this swim...a faster time, better start and navigation and better drafting. I felt my start was better, navigation improved and I attempted to draft when I could find people around me but I seemed to be inbetween the fop'ers and the mop'ers. What would you do differently?: work hard to establish a draft with the fast guys early and do whatever it takes to stay on it. More swimming...! Transition 1
Comments: 16th ovrall and 8th in my age group here. Fairly decent T1. What would you do differently?: I suppose I could have ran harder up the stairs and over into transition but then my HR would have been much higher and I prob. would have more diff. completing my tasks at TI....run slightly harder next time. Bike
Comments: well....started out fairly well with a good job getting into the shoes. started off up central and turned on west lake. got the legs warmed up and went to throw her in the big ring and it threw it off to the outside! Ugghh...struggled for a good minute or so to get it back on while everyone passed me...was able to get the chain back on without stopping though. recovered and found someone to ride with who I thought was going at a good pace. we broke out onto 54a and started up the first grade..then I hear a noise and he says..you lost your flat kit. Looked back and there it was, way back down the hill. "bye now"...turned around went back down the hill, watched a bunch of guys going up the hill by me. unclipped one shoe and bent down, picked it up and stuffed it into my bottle holder pouch in my jersey. started back up the hill staring at all the fellas that just blew by me. Lost a good two minutes or so with all these shananigans but what can you do? Rode within myself for the rest of the race and was very pleased with how the rest of the ride went. Again I was by myself for most of the race. What would you do differently?: will have flat kit very secure for next race. Will have more time on tri bike and will have it's shifting tendencies wired for Tupper. I think the derailing was caused by yours truly executing a very enthusiastic lever throw. Transition 2
Comments: 31 overall, 10th in age. not bad but....my bike shoe fell off after my dismount and there it lay....no one wanted to pick it up and hand it to me...okay it's dirty but please! had to back up the 10 yards to the dismount line and bend down and pick up the shoe!I know "no outside assistance but please! What would you do differently?: I must have twisted the shoe just enough for it to pop off when I dismounted...never happened before. Will work on it..probably cost me 30 seconds. Run
Comments: wanted to take the first mile fairly easy because I knew I was not 100% coming into this race due to some recent injuries. Probably "coasted" a bit too much and extended that distance to 1.5k...however I was very happy with my run because it was relatively pain free, and a very rewarding experience.Just like the swim and bike I was by myself for most of this. Happy with my stride and cadence. Bob commented that I looked very relaxed out there. He was right, mentally I was in a very good place, breathing was controlled. Had to really back off of the training in the last two weeks so overall I'm very happy with this run. What would you do differently?: Pick it up a bit more after the first mile, and start my finishing pace around the 7k mark. Post race
Warm down: Sam Adams....and a great post race meal. Salmon salad, chkn pecc w/zukes and aspargus. Oh and don't forget the fettucine! What limited your ability to perform faster: well...suffering bronchitis and a sinus infection and popping anti biotics like pez probably doesn't lead up to the ultimate race. But that's not an excuse...just what I was handed for the two weeks leading up to the race. The left shoulder injury and the IT issue in the left knee combined for a perfect storm of not enough training and a real drop in my performance at Keuka. Event comments: Would like to rank this race higher but until the state gets off it's butt and fixes 54A a three is all it gets...I know people that skip this race because of the jarring of that darn road. I learned alot about myself at this race and really enjoyed the experience. It reaffirmed why I love triathlons and renewed my energy and spirit. Last updated: 2010-01-05 12:00 AM

was up at 3:30 listening to the rain pound on top of the camper...had oatmeal and a bagel at 4:30. Two cups of coffee got the bowels moving. Bottle of water and it was off to the races!
On the drive up we blew a belt on the rv...but we were able to Macgyver our way to autozone and make the repair. Then we just squeezed in to the pre race packet pickup on Sat. night...though we had alot of good mojo going coming into race day.
Set up transition, jumped in the wetsuit and swam around for awhile. One of the better swim warmups I've done and will do more of these in the future.
