Age Group Rank = 3/10
Pre-race routine:

Up early, oatmeal, small cup of coffee. Stomach didn't feel right.
Event warmup:

Ran a mile, swam about 100 yards
Swim
  • 17m 10s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

Lake was pretty shallow in spots, so you could walk, which I did here and there. Otherwise, it was a small lake, so it waw pretty easy to stay on course. OK swim, nothing special ... I still have no love for OWS.
What would you do differently?:

Push it a little harder, I just never seem to race the swim, just trying to finish it so I can get to racing the bike/run.
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

OK T1. Got the wetsuit off quickly during the run to T1. Shoes/helment and away I go. Pretty long run to T1.
What would you do differently?:

OWS really wipe out my legs. I tried to run to the T1 area, but my legs werent working. Need to remember to use them some late in the swim
Bike
  • 45m 47s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.66 mile/hr
Comments:

I had nothing in my legs the first few miles. Barely got up that first hill. My right calf and hamstring were cramping really bad on the first two miles. Got in the zone after that, and ended up just OK on the bike. My second lap was about 1 mph faster then the first after my legs got going.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

Good T2. Got shoes and race number belt on quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 25m 52s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt like didn't have much left for the run. I think the course may have been long, but the wet conditions may have contributed to the slow speed. That's the slowest 5K for me in a long time. Pace was steady ... steady slow.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, drank some water/pepsi

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Been a rough month for me stress wise ... but my training has been OK. Didn't have the racer mindset today like I did at my two earlier races this year. Just didn't feel like it today, and the performance showed. Don't like racing in these type of conditions (Wet roads and trails, very humid). Its the same for everyone I know, but I like dry sunny coolish days.

Event comments:

First year of the race. Enjoyed it. Lake was a little murky with a lot of slop on the bottom, but did cause any issues. Will do it again next year.
