Swim
Comments: I started in the second wave. This race caters to first timers, so there are all levels of experience in the water. I was surrounded by people doing the breaststroke. I managed to swim away from them, only to get slowed down on the inside of the first buoy. What would you do differently?: I thought that I had a much better swim than what the chip time said. The swim has always been my limited, but today I actually felt like I did much better and was competitive. Transition 1
Comments: No wetsuit, dropped my goggles and swim cap at the GREYHOUNDS tent, grabbed my bike and I was off! What would you do differently?: Nearly perfect T1. I probably could have run a little faster to cut off a few seconds. Bike
Comments: The hills were more of a struggle today than almost any other time I've ridden this course. I still did well, but my legs felt it! What would you do differently?: Again, I thought I was a bit faster than this, but I felt fast. Transition 2
Comments: Another decent T2. I wasted a couple of seconds trying to strap my FR305 on my wrist - I didn't stop running out of T2, but it took some of my focus away from the race. I ditched the strap with some friends as soon as I saw them. Run
Comments: Run went very well. I was faster here than I thought I would be. I figured I'd be pushing the 7:45 pace as I haven't really done any speed work this year. I had a good idea of my pace based on people around me, but my Garmin was in my pocket, so I never looked at it during the run. HR data says that I could have pushed a little harder. What would you do differently?: Try a few interval sprints throughout the course, that would have put me ahead of a few people and cut off some time from my OA finish. Post race
Warm down: None What limited your ability to perform faster: This past week has been brutal. Becky was out of town for 3 days (I was home with my girls for 3 days... Sophia is teething), work has sucked (my last 2 shifts have left me with less than 3 hours of sleep each night) and all of my training thus far has been focused on Racine. Today's race was for fun - so it was very successful! Event comments: Took about 2 minutes off from last years OA time. The 2nd place person in my AG didn't have a run time and was given a 2nd place finish time of 59 minutes (though he swam 10+ min and had a 4 min T1 and a 38 min bike), the 3rd place person was the individual start. That's some bull crockery right there! UPDATE (6/14/2010): Good News!!! The chip company that did the timing for Hawk Island recognized a mistake in my AG. Turns out, the person who was in 2nd, did not have a 8 minute 5k. So I did in fact take 3rd place! They were even so kind as to update their Results page. http://results.active.com/pages/displayNonGru.jsp?orgID=216362&rsID... Last updated: 2010-01-06 12:00 AM

A short barefoot jog and a quick swim... my swim goggle strap broke.
