Swim
Comments: I started 10 seconds behind another 40-44 guy and knew I'd have to pass him at some point. I passed at the 250 wall with ease and then passed 3 more people. This was as relaxed as I've ever been in a race and felt really good. Not my fastest swim but very good. Transition 1
Comments: Good T1. Went very smoothly! Bike
Comments: Without a doubt my best bike ever! I've been hitting the weights hard since December in an effort to improve my bike...and it worked! On top of being stronger, I was racing on Kimberley's rear disc and front Zipp 404! This is the first race I've ever done when NO ONE PASSED ME! Unfortunately, Jim D. got a flat and was done for the day. He was the one guy I thought I wouldn't be able to catch. I felt really strong holding my cadence and still thinking about pushing the run! Transition 2
Run
Comments: This was a really good run for me and my second fastest 5K ever but fastest in a triathlon. I was focusing on a quick turn-over for the first mile trying to get my running legs going. By the 1.5 mile mark I saw the last of the age-groupers I knew I had to pass. I passed him quickly and with little effort. Jim D. came running along and turned around to run in with me. He carried me all the way to the finish shoot with great encouragement! THAT is sportsmanship and character! Rather than moping and feeling sorry for himself, he came out to cheer me on to my first age-group win! Post race
Event comments: Parris Island continues to be one of my favorites of the season! I love the US Marine Corps and how awesome they are on this course! Last updated: 2010-01-06 12:00 AM

Choked down a half bagel before leaving hotel at 6:30. 2 cups of coffee then a banana about 7:15. My nerves were shot so I tried to relax and talk to some folks to settle down.
15 minutes on bike, 5 minute run, 500m swim.
