Swim
Comments: I took 3 minutes off my time from last year - are you kidding me. The wetsuit certainly helped (not to mentioned the fact that no one else was wearing one) but I couldn't be more pleased. I was hoping for under 9m and knew I had done better than that coming out of the water and more importantly I wasn't gassed. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I may not wear the wetsuit next year but if I'm not going for an age group award I don't really see the downside. It was very easy to take off. Transition 1
Comments: Really good T1 for me, espically since my rack was a long way from the mat and I had to get my wetsuit off. My practices getting the suit off didn't go as well as race day - I think being wet helped? What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Very solid bike for me. I pushed hard, maybe a little too hard for the run but hey it's a Sprint right? What would you do differently?: Not that I've even done them but I'm sure hill repeats would help. Transition 2
Comments: Couldn't ask for much better. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Ugh, once again I come up short on the run. Based on my training and bricks on the course I was positive 27 minutes was the worst I would do. I was hurting on the first mile and the run never got comfortable. I had side stitches (I think that's what they are) right away off the bike that didn't help things. What would you do differently?: My run training has come a long way, I did take about 90 seconds off my run from last year. I just need to keep progressing. Post race
Warm down: Hugged my kids, waited for my wife to finish, stretched a bit, and ate some pizza (so good right then). What limited your ability to perform faster: My winter run training was all about building a base with only LSD runs. My own flawed design seemed to get the best of me as I'm now a very good slow runner. It's not that I need to win the race but my run speed is not at a point I'm happy with. Solution - a quality running program. Event comments: I love this race and can only hope to be in it for the next 20 years+. Overall, I was thrilled with my results. I took over 7 minutes off my much improved time from last year. My swim training with RMST is like gold. I now have the confidence to get back into open water this Fall. My Reston Sprint 2011 will be all about improvement on the run! Last updated: 2010-01-07 12:00 AM
