Run
Comments: It wasn't to bad of a fun.I thought I went out a little too fast at first but overall I felt great during the run for the minimal training I had put in. What would you do differently?: Go out a smidge slower. Transition 1
Comments: I didn't have that fast of a transition. It was ok. I would of liked to be faster. What would you do differently?: Practice my transitions more. Bike
Comments: There was a nice headwind going out the first half of the course. I made sure to spin my legs a little more than anything else. This was in anticipation for the tailwind I knew I would have coming back in. That tail wind helped immensely coming back in. It also helped that I saw the storm clouds moving in. I knew I wanted to finish before it hit. What would you do differently?: Nothing, except once I get enough money invest in a proper tri bike. Transition 2
Comments: This was probably the best transition I have ever had. I almost slipped as I was trying to stop by my bike rack spot because I don't take my feet out of the shoes before I dismount. I heard some spectators gasp, but other wise no one noticed. Even with that minor flaw, it was still my best transition ever. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I was actually still feeling good during this run. I think I actually felt better in these 2 miles than the first 2 miles. The only reason why it was a little slower was because someone made me ride a bike in between the two runs! I thought I was doing awesome and had more than enough time to get under my 1 hour mark like I knew I could. The clock that was at the finish was about a minute faster than mine. So when my clock said 58:30 the official clock said 59:30. I realized after the race, that I forgot to turn off the auto pause function on the watch to keep it from stopping during transitions! Oops, I still made it though. What would you do differently?: Get under the 14:00 mark. Post race
Warm down: I stood and gasped as much air in to my body as possible. I then walked an grabbed some food. Got my bike before the first small down pour happened. I helped the volunteers put some tables down and such that weren't being used. A storm rolled in just after I finished, 10 minutes, , it opened up with a steady stream of rain. Then it stopped for about 20 minutes or so. I grabbed my bike from transition just before the first rain fell so it wouldn't get too wet. I decided to get home before the second wave of rain hit becasue it was a torrential down pour that last for about 30 minutes or so. What limited your ability to perform faster: The two week break that I took, which I needed after my first HIM. Event comments: It is an average duathlon here in Tinley Park. If your looking for a good local race it is great. The only thing was, the parking lot used for transition had four cars still parked in it. They probably should of towed those because they were really in the way. The weather started out really humid and disgusting but once the storms hit, it had cooled off and felt great. Well I woke at 5:15 am keeping my same normally routine. Even though this race was a five minute walk from my house, I figured there is no point in sleeping in. I ate a bagel and got ready to ride the three blocks over once transition opened at 6 am. I got myself a nice spot. Walked the 5 minutes home to relax some more and wait for my mom and the girlfriend to be ready to go. Left my house again at 7:10. I checked to make sure no one had moved my bike. I walked through transition to make sure I knew where it was at.
I did a 10 minute warm up run about, which left me about 20 minutes before race start time.
