Pre-race routine:

Got some breakfast and met everyone to car pool down to the race start. Light jog to the beginning of the race to see how the IT band would feel. A little tight but figured we will see what happends.
Event warmup:

None, just took everything in and just got ready.

Comments:

Ended up in the huge (lets just jog) crowd in the beginning and to be honest got a little frustrated as I tried to dodge and weeve in between the crowd.

Finally about a 1/2 mile into the race I was able to get into my pace. Hit the first mile (6:58) and went oh man, need to really bring it down. Focused on taking it down a notch and ran the second mile at 7:30's. But this is where my stomach started to get a knot in it and caused some considerable pain. Not side stiches at all but more of disruption in the stomach due to food. Odd because I had a clif bar about an hour and half prior to the race.

So around mile 2.3 I pulled off to settle my stomach and reassess my time goals. I realized I wasn't going to PR this time probably considering how I felt. My IT band had a slight twinge and the weather was a little cool that if I really tweeked my IT band anymore this of course would be the time. I got back to the running and just shut down the race and just tried to maintain a decent "talkable" pace and not risk any injury.

What would you do differently?:

Not go out as fast :) But I always seem to be the jack rabbit. But happy with my results even with a 1 min "rest" considering my time.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and stretched. Tried to meet up with everyone after the race. Spent the rest of the day celebrating the run with some friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

IT band issue the last few weeks has been giving me some trouble in my ability to push the run or run at all.

But since then (3/22/10) I've limited my running and the issue has seemed to go away.

Event comments:

Great race with the after party in Power Plant. Had a great time, good swag and will do the race again for sure.
