Pre-race routine:

Carpooled down to the race with some friends and went to the bathroom at a local McD's before heading to the race.
Event warmup:

Just jogged on over to the beginning of the race before waiting in line with everyone else.

Comments:

Started off really well but realized while waiting for the race to start that I really had to pee. So I stopped at the Pot o johns at the first 1/4 mile and was able to get in fairly quickly. Ended up that I did have to use the bathroom a lot more then I thought.

Got out and went on my way. First mile 10:30, man stupid Pee break. Tried to stay in the back and not dodge through everyone and focused on my race. Focused on a consistent pace which I pulled off pretty well. Tried to get some Gatorade around mile 6 and again around mile 8.

Right around mile 8.2-8.5 I could feel the pain in my quads, hamstrings and calves pretty bad. Realizing I had about a 1.5 miles left I knew I'd be close to my PR and had to push through. Last .3 of a mile was a gradual up hill which hurt bad and I crossed the finish line exhausted.


What would you do differently?:

Not have to pee in the beginning. If I did even a 9 min mile (which was slower then my usual pace) I would have set a 2 min PR! Ah well I was happy with a consistent race.

Warm down:

I headed to the car to change, get my recovery drink and then meet up with everyone else.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing really. I guess starting a new job and not running as many LSD runs as I wanted to could be a hamper on my training.

Good race from year to year. They have it down pat.
