Run
Comments: This was a super fun race for me. My last half marathon last year got turned into a "fun run" because of freakishly hot weather in March. That was tough for me, because I was trying to go for sub-8 min. miles. Which I did--but just barely (7:59). The heat was really brutal and I almost threw up at the halfway point. This time, I was counting on more favorable weather. I followed the same training program as last year, and it worked. I blew my previous personal best out of the water. I was concerned because breaking free of the crowds was tough in Central Park and the run down West Side Highway was intense, mentally. Felt like it went on forever. But my pace seemed pretty much on target the whole way and it turns out I basically ran my 10k pace over a half marathon. So I'm thrilled. I got everything I wanted out of this day. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This was a great race for me. Post race
Warm down: Walked and stretched, had an apple, drank some water and Gatorade. Walked some more. Ate a ginormous brunch at Resto. What limited your ability to perform faster: Well, I'm not gonna say I'm fast, but this was a new PR, so I'll say it's fast for me, and I don't know what limited my performance. I felt great, I'm so pleased with the result and that's that! :) Event comments: Great race. The crowds are both annoying and amazing at the same time. There's great energy among the athletes and volunteers, and hey, you're running through NYC and they close down Times Square, so...there's that. Really fun race, glad they moved it to March! Got my stuff together, plus a change of clothes for Dan to hang on to at the finish. Took my asthma inhaler, had some milk and a vitamin. Didn't feel like food, since I've just been getting up and running before breakfast anyway, but I popped a GU gel in my armband with my inhaler, just in case.
Jogged easy to the start line. Stretched in the coral.
