Pre-race routine:

Got up about 2:30am, ate a banana. An hour later ate another. About half an hour before race ate a Clif bar and a Choco #9 Gel.
Event warmup:

Brisk walked around for awhile.........
Swim
  • 34m 17s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

Only issues in the swim was visisbility. The sun was shooting straight in my eyes when we headed east, once we got around the 1st bouy, visisbility was ok. Was much more comfortable in the water. Swimming last week at Saguaro was definately the key...
What would you do differently?:

More base, base, base!
Transition 1
  • 02m 33s
Comments:

Kind of draggin' a bit here. Trying to relax, my hr jumped up to 170 after I got out of water.
What would you do differently?:

More base!!!! Had a problem snapping my race number belt on.
Bike
  • 1h 23m 21s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.89 mile/hr
Comments:

Chain popped off climbing Curry Rd. Bout caused a 30 bike pile up going too fast around the corner at Priest(sorry guyz!), other than that, it was ok. I had no idea we were going to climb that much.
What would you do differently?:

1 more bottle on the bike with sum ultra in it, train on more hills, hills, hills!
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

T2 was pretty smooth, was pretty excited to finally get to running! My nephew was cheering me on rite outside the bike corral, was needing sum of that.........
What would you do differently?:

Not much, was happy with this transition.
Run
  • 57m 4s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

Decent run, not alot left in the tank after that bike ride, but that's why were here! Getting warm by this point. Stairs up Mill Ave. bridge were a HUGE surprise!
What would you do differently?:

More base, base, base!!!!!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and drank my recovery drink and got some calories in me(eggs, raisins, ultra), then drank a nasty Muscle Milk. Won't ever make that mistake, again!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enuf base! Keep werkin'!

Event comments:

Would have liked it if we could have got our chips rite when transition opened, don't care to piss away the morning waiting in line to get my chip. 1 of the reasons I get there early...........
