Pre-race routine:

Got to Pier 3 at about 06:00am. Went for a nice run. Got on the boat and headed to Alcatraz
Swim
  • 34m 1s
  • 2640 yards
  • 01m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

My swim was pretty strong. I felt ok. Got some water in my mouth which tasted really bad and a seal was chilling with me for about 2 minutes just seeing what I was up to. It was pretty cool. But then it got bored and took off. I wish he/she could've helped me swim to shore!!
What would you do differently?:

There was really nothing I could've done more on the swim.
Transition 1
  • 08m 15s
Comments:

My T-1 was awful. When I came out of the water, I was extremely dizzy because the blood flow had slowed down due to being horizontal and being a little cold. So whenever I tried putting my leg up, I felt as if I was going to fall down. It took a good 2 min to get that wetsuit off. It was horrible
What would you do differently?:

Run with the wetsuit to T-1 so that I have time to get my blood flowing again. Never again taking my wetsuit off when I get to shore
Bike
  • 1h 05m 1s
  • 18 miles
  • 16.61 mile/hr
Comments:

This course is a killer. I'm so glad that it is only 18 miles and not 25! These hills will eat you alive.
What would you do differently?:

I did my best
Transition 2

Comments:

very good t-2. Quick
Run
  • 1h 03m 34s
  • 8 miles
  • 07m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

Keep your arms pumping and your legs will follow.
What would you do differently?:

Couldn't have done anything differently.
Post race
Warm down:

EAT EAT EAT

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need more work on the bike

Event comments:

There is a reason this race has been going on for 30 years. It is the best race in the world. Everything from the food to the people to the scenery is just amazing. I will definitely do this again and again as long as I am physically able to.

Overall: 911/1800
Performance: Good

Course: L shaped swim was necessary because the current was pretty rough. If you tried to just go in a straight line, you would've ended up under the Golden Gate Bridge. Pretty crazy.

Age Group: 0/208
Overall: 280/1800
Performance: Average
Course: The first two miles are level to get your blood going and get some feeling back in your feet. Then the ascent starts towards the bridge. And the next 3 miles are all up hill. Then you get to Baker Beach where you run .5 miles on the sand and then hit the 400 step sand stairs. This hurt alot. Everything in your body is telling you to stop but fight through it because after that, its only .5 miles more of a climb but then you head back down for the finish.
