Total Time = 1h 50m 1s
Overall Rank = 330/362
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 21/25
Pre-race routine:

up at 4 am (ugh)
Was going to have frozen waffles but they were gone so I had a bowl of ceral and yogurt.

Had to make a pre race jitters bathrooom stop at Cub on the way!
Event warmup:

Rode the bike a bit. Should have swam (may have taken the jitters away) Should have stretched more
Swim
  • 15m 1s
  • 528 yards
  • 02m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

I really blew this. I don't know if I started too hard or had a panic attack but I was breathless very early. I spent most of the rest of my swim on my back gulping air. As you might imagine my navigation was pretty horrible. My HR was in the upper 160's when I got to T1 so I can only imagine what it was in the water.
What would you do differently?:

MORE OWS PRACTICE!!!!!!! Feel more comfortable using my wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 05m 39s
Comments:

Because of the threat of rain I kept my socks under my bucket (which I sit on to change). Like a dumbass I forgot that was where they were and I was digging in my bag for them. I also had trouble getting the shirt on wet.
What would you do differently?:

Larger shirt (done) practice my transitions so I KNOW where I put things
Bike
  • 45m 40s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.08 mile/hr
Comments:

Here I rocked (for me). I took my frustration out on the pedals. It took almost half of the bike for my HR to return to normal. I passed lots of people and saw lots of people with flats. Here is where I started to get my confidence back
What would you do differently?:

Try to get a gell down on the ride. I was huffing and puffing too much out of T1 and never went back to it when I settled in.
Transition 2
  • 02m 54s
Comments:

T2 went much better. My confidence was up and I knew at this point I was going to make my goal and finish.
What would you do differently?:

Larger shirt (chafing) (done)
Run
  • 40m 48s
  • 3 miles
  • 13m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

It took a while to get my legs under me. My racewalking form was good and I kept pushing my turnover - that is the only way I will get faster. My HR stayed in the 140's whic meant I was puching a bit which was good.
What would you do differently?:

More racewalking practice to get faster. My pace has been dropping this last month but I feel I am a little behind the curve on this due to injures and lack of walking.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit and stretched. Tlaked and celebrated with the BT group and CC people. Walked my bike and stuff back to the car. DRANK everything I could get my hands on!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My poor swim and my conditioning which both will get better with more training.

Event comments:

This is a great race for newbies. My CC coach is really excited about getting into tri's after being at one. Since it was my wife's first also I think she was impressed with the organization and the effort put into them.
