Swim
Comments: was a very comfortable swim. I had no race jitters and didn't care about other swimmers hitting me. caught on to a good set of feet and followed to the finish. he wasn't the straightest swimmer in the world but I had to work in order to keep on him so figured it would be better than being alone. Transition 1
Comments: Had a good transition. Bike
Comments: the course was 2km longer because of some construction they had to go around. hard course with rough roads. one steep climb and one steady climb. I started in the second to last wave of swimmers so had to pass people alllll freaking day. didn't enjoy it as I had to keep my focus more than I normally do. Head up trying not to hit anyone for 2.5hrs is tough, normally I get past all the faster swimmers and into some open road where I can ride my own race, not the case today. A lot of traffic as well which was not cool. Tour buses getting i the way, traffic at stop signs...kinda silly for a race of this size. would have been nice to start at 6:30 with the pros. What would you do differently?: Eat more, drink more. I used Carbo pro which was great but it only seemed to make me less hungry rather than give me all the fuel I needed. started to hurt near the end of the ride which is normally not the case in a half iron. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Did not have a good run. Was going solid for the first half but really started to hurt at about 12km and couldn't hold pace. at about 15km I tweaked my calf/knee/hamstring something rather on one of the decents. I'm not used to running hard downhill. Feels like something in behind my knee, upper calf was pulled, had to semi-run it home. was totally dead anyway, did not get enough into my body during the ride. My leg still hurts today...2 weeks later. i have been running a bit, but generally just water running. Went to physio a couple days ago, they did some ultrasound but I'll just have to let it heal before IM canada. What would you do differently?: Eat more, drink more on the bike Post race
Event comments: I do love the course. Just wish they could sort out a better swim venue as I really don't like the wave starts. It could be ok if you started early but starting second to last meant an endless stream of people to catch all day. Last updated: 2005-11-18 12:00 AM
