Pre-race routine:

The usual routine. Got up at 4:00, had some coffee and started to pull things together. Ate a peanutbutter and banana sandwich. Was done with my setup around 6:45 and ate a clif bar and drank a gatorade.
Event warmup:

Swam a little and stretched.
Swim
  • 32m 28s
  • 1500 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

Typical swim for me. The chop was real bad when we made the first turn. I got way off course coming back which cost me a lot of time. I did find out however that the course was the actual distance and not short like last year, which makes me feel better.
What would you do differently?:

Sight better. My bad navigation skills did me in on the way back.
Transition 1
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

Good time. Same as last year.
What would you do differently?:

Move faster?
Bike
  • 1h 04m 25s
  • 23.3 miles
  • 21.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Good pace. A tad slower than last year, but I think it was hotter. I placed 5th in AG compared to 4th last year.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

Forgot to take out my infinit for the run, and couldn't figure out where it was in my bag. Probably lost 10 seconds but I'm glad I didn't just take off without it.
What would you do differently?:

take my infit flask out of my bag
Run
  • 50m 42s
  • 6.25 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Slow start but was able to slowly increase my pace. I kept cool but it was very hot.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure...
Post race
Warm down:

I was spent. Very hot. I just walked around and drank a lot.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the heat

Event comments:

Top 10 in my AG which was my goal (last year was 13th). Good race. Placed much higher in the run (7) compared to last year (17). Swim navigation just killed me. I was 4 minutes slower than last year, but it's always hard to tell based on the distance changes. This is the last year in the 35-39 AG so we'll see how I do next year when I turn 40.
